Singer Einar Solberg states: "We had no plans to start with a new album, then came Covid. Aphelion is a very different album. It's intuitive and spontaneous. We've experimented with many completely different ways of writing music and explored new ways to work. There has been no room for overthinking, exaggerated perfectionism or carefully planned songs. I believe this is one of the strengths of this album. It feels alive, it feels free and it does not come across as too calculated. The album was recorded in three different studios, and a few of the songs were actually recorded in all three studios, Ghost Ward Studios, Ocean Sound Recordings and Cederberg Studios. The aphelion is the point in the orbit of an object where it is farthest from the sun, and it has a symbolic value which I will leave to your own interpretation."

Posts: 101 Written by Daniell on 09.06.2021 at 19:16 Agreed. I really liked Malina (and defended it on MS a bit to be honest), and when Pitfalls dropped I tried my best to enjoy it, but I think it's fair to say the band struggle without the rock/metal elements of their music.

I never returned to Pitfalls after my review of it - I can appreciate them going in that direction, but I also can't say it's something I particularly enjoyed, so I wouldn't mind at least some return to elements of the earlier material, or otherwise a push further into a different non-metal style that might be more appealing than what they were doing on Pitfalls

It's obvious that many people dislike Pitfalls and prefer the earlier albums. I like Pitfalls as much as the earlier stuff and I am one of those who enjoy the direction they're going in. Imo Pitfalls has one of the best songs they've written, Alleviate. And if Castaway Angels is a pointer of what to expect from the new album I guess a lot of fans are gonna be disappointed. I won't be though, that I'm sure of.

Solberg is one of my favorite vocalists at the moment, so even if Pitfalls sounded more like a solo venture than an actual Leprous album, I enjoyed it quite a bit. As a result, both directions are fine by me. I don't expect them to ever top Coal anyway.
