Guitar Pro

Seeing how many of us have Guitar Pro, I figured it would be nice to have a thread for it.

Questions?
Find something cool?
Tips and tricks?
Post it here!

I recently got Guitar Pro 5, I haven't used it much yet seeing how I need to change my guitar strings.

I Use guitar pro a lot...maybe too much. im really forgetful so it helps me get material down.

Some things are really stupid though...

1. I cant seem to get it to import to a wav. file (Tells me that it records during playback, but does it fuck)
2. The RSE is crap, i just stick with the MIDI sounds.
3. Guitar Pro 5 is not as responsive as Guitar Pro 4...sometimes i have to press the stop button 2 or 3 times to stop it.
4. When you import midi stuff it prefers to put in open notes(like an open g rather than 5th fret on the D).
It makes the passage look more complex than it is...even though there is a tool to correct it you have to do it note by note.
5. The drums are such a pain in the ass to put in!

But even with these flaws it is still a fantastic tool.

If you have a way of fixing some of these problems, let me know.

Either the program is a mistake or some people are just too dumb. When it comes to guitar pro, I only remember people who won't even try to pull a song out if they can't find the tab or that after quite a while of (faulty) practicing can't even read the bloody G clef. When it comes to putting things down, I prefer the music sheet and the metronome to find the time. I can't stand practicing anywhere near the computer and i find things like guitar pro utterly useless.

Guitar Pro is superb...i often compose my music ideas in it and i cant be disappointed with it, maybe just with the drums a bit, but who cares about such a small "mistake" with so many other features...

I use it a lot, I even sometimes listen to those tabs as If I were listening to the actual songs.
I have some songs composed with it during my free time. It's a really good program, but it has a long way to improve yet, I have it since the 3 version and I actually can see the evolution, that dude, really put some hard work there.

Well, by testing till the tiring those RSE bad sounds, I can safely say that for Electric Guitar you can use Electric Guitar 2 and in the bank sound the Guitar 2 too in Distortion guitar, overdriven is crap. Try this, I think it has the most decent sound. the same goes for acoustic metal, use the second one.
Indeed, the 4 version is better for controls, but it doesn't respond to the mouse scroll

Guitar pro is an extremely useful program. This summer I got GP 5, and I think it's great. Especially since I'm much better at reading musical notes than tablatures.
I also have a question. Sometimes I cannot change the given tempo. Why is that?

I think its safe to say that it would be nice if GP made a guide book.

the only program i use to write stuff, and for good reason. the interface is so easy(especially when on gp5 you use the gp3 skin) and you can customize everything, only con i can think of is, though there are hundreds of sounds in there, there's only a few RSE(which IMO are fantastic and 100x better than the MIDI's)

Do you think there would be a way to persuade the makers of Guitar Pro to make a guide?

I guess I could find a way to email them, its worth a shot and I have nothing to lose. All I really need is a well laid out reason to why they should provide a guide book.

I just realised that drumkit 16 sounds different from the others. as far as i can tell the other ones are pretty much identical.

I don't know if anybody had this problem...
I use Guitar Pro 5...when I open some ".gp4 or .gp3" files it shows me that you need to update your guitar pro to open this file, why the hell....I thought GP5 can open anything???

and I'm not gonna bother myself by opening GP online coz I have a cracked version...

anybody has a solution for this?????????

The basic concept of GP is reasonable of course.
But learning a specific song is more suggestive by
listening to the original song and tryin' to find out
what the riffs are all about.

It seems like something in it corrupted. Try reinstalling it, if that doesn't work I will try to think of something else.

Has anyone ever had this problem where everything freezes up and a message in french (or a different European language) appears?

The snare of this drum kit sounds like an electric drum, doesn't it? , it's been a while since my last time using GP5 so i don't remember clearly

yep I did, have no idea what it is, but it seems that when I move the mouse cursor over the fret board on top of the tab I get another pop-up with the same sentence??? I hope the creators of GP fix this coz it bugs the shit outta me...

another thing I'm facing i that when I change the tuning of any instrument it changes automatically to the "Acoustic Guitar (steel)" but I discovered that if the tuning is not listed it doesn't do that so I deleted the saved tunings that I usually use (such as "1/2 step down" and "1 step down" so it wont change anything

Exactly. To me, it is the most efficient way not only to see what you are writing laid out in any for possible, but it is amazing that you can actually preview it from any point of reference. I find it flawless.
