Anyone who’s been following Blood Incantation closely up to this point probably won’t be overly surprised by the nature of this latest step in their musical evolution, but the sheer extent of their progression since we last heard from them is quite something to behold.

Then tracklisting here is wrong.

Back on the new album, I'm excited too knowing Blood Incantation doesn't able to push much than being catchy as hell. Not one of my favorites to put my hands on.

I'm shocked at how good this is, I was stunned by the first half, but the second one is as good
10/10 for the moment, might revise later after the initial hype but this could be AOTY

Damn, they are getting better with each new album! I wonder if this will be their first album with a green rating.

Pretty good! Lacking in any real hook or super high point, but it’s good front to back.

This is going to be that one album that pops up near the top of all the mainstream metal end-of-year lists that actually deserves it. Does a great job of expanding on the prog tendencies that were bleeding into Hidden History without compromising on the ferocity of the death metal

Finally, a well-deserved album that's in Top 3 unlike a flower metal turd like Wintersun's Time II who have lost considerable amount of steam.

Definitely one of the most unique and interesting death metal bands around right now. This is like the ultimate death metal album with technical, progressive, and OSDM all excellently merged into one, but then they throw you completely off guard by introducing wtf moments, "The Message [Tablet II]" for instance has an interesting touch of 70s prog! When broken down into sections this album has some fantastic moments, but last track aside (which is imo one of the best songs I've heard this year) I find the slower sections impress me most of all.

Consistently enjoyable and interesting front to back. They leveled-up on this record.

Great record, I'll never get tired of some good death metal with cosmic and/or sci-fi themes. The Stargate: Tablet II is still such a huge surprise to me, I never would've imagined that Tangerine Dream would be featured in a death metal record. But it works so well here, might be my favorite track. When it flares out from the expertly crafted spacious sequences into this huge groovy death-industrial metal, oof, so good. (But then again, I'm not so sure about a favorite. Competition amongst the songs is stacked.)

A lot of creativity sprinkled all over the place, really, little bits here and there, like the neat percussive section during The Stargate: Tablet III. And the prog sections are so deliciously groovy and... spaced out! - Honestly, the progressive, electronic, and atmospheric/ambient part of the record reign supreme. Even outside of that, it brings nice dynamic variety and it's well paced.

However, it's not one of those records I couldn't imagine being any better. Some of the moments were a bit of a drag, I think. The heavier death metal side could've been more impactful and interesting overall. Still, what an amazing and well produced record. If it wins AOTY, well, I won't be complaining.

I think most likely I'm not sophisticated enough to grasp the thrill of this music. I thought it was good but would not have given it a second thought after finishing the record if I didn't come here to rate it and see a 9.1 with 68 votes counted. I didn't have a huge emotional response or "inner metal nerd" response to the record... I wonder what I could do to try to understand the band more, or understand progressive death metal more, to appreciate it more. Of course, taste is subjective and maybe it's just not for me; but I want to at least take another shot at it and I don't think the solution is to just listen again right now (but I don't know what the solution is yet!).

Give yourself more credit, it's got nothing to do with sophistication or intelligence. Your comment is more constructive and helpful than 10 people calling it AOTY without elaborating. Never feel like you 'just don't get it' because you don't see chart topping releases the same way the majority of the community do.

What a nice message! It means a lot both as an acknowledgement of the intent to contribute to the discussion, and as food for thought for my reflections on this album as well as for thinking about how we appreciate music more generally. Thanks!

Hope you enjoy Absolute Elsewhere!

First of all, it is inappropriate to define this band as just "death metal" here. Secondly, this band is very thoughtful and talented, and this is also a good album. Finally, this is obviously overrated. At the moment of my review, the average score of 9+ from 78 people is simply too scary. As a music with death metal elements, I didn't hear any memorable riffs and solos on this album. Its excellence may be the characteristic ambient experimental music of this band, but I think death metal and ambient experimental music are still somewhat incompatible in most cases. I am not a conservative who sticks to the rules and cannot tolerate people's exploration and innovation in music. I just think that they have only taken a step, but they are obviously still a long way from completeness and maturity. Believe me, if this album can eventually enter the top 200, it must be the result of over-hype...

9 average after 90 votes is absolutely insane, and although I enjoyed the album I really don't see what makes it supposedly so great especially compared to their first 2 releases

After spending a nice vacation on new Blood Incantation album for almost 4-5 days, I can see why it resonates with listeners. This is easily Blood Incantation most experimental work to date; a sweeping journey that pulls you through a range of landscapes, avant-garde, psychedelic creating a surreal atmosphere with progressive elements taking center stage. It’s an experience I didn't feel with Blood Incantation before, blending various musical ingredients to create something truly unique and thoughtful.
