Another win for German Death Metal! I seem to have an inexplicable fascination for German Death Metal these days. Maybe because I live in the country, and try to compose death metal myself ?

In any case this album was really fun, and I consider it a very successful comeback. They changed the formula a lot, I checked their older stuff to confirm that. This here isn’t Gottenburg anymore, it’s straight up death metal, still on the melodic side though. It reminded me a lot of Disbelief’s The Ground Collapses, to the point that I wonder if it was mixed by the same person ? It has the same sound texture, and especially the same very present and deep vocals.

Interestingly while they moved away from Gothenburg, they now incorporated some small Finnish influences. This is most obvious on A Winter Song, where the main riff kinda sounds Folk / Power and would fit on many Finnish folk metal albums, except here they tint it with the brutality of a rougher death metal.

All in all a very good album from start to finish, with faster and slower paced moment, engaging riffs, and again, a production that sounds delightful to my ears.
