GHUA felt more heavy metal with a modern edge than thrash to me. Same with DIM. The thrash moments were scattered and not much overall.

Force of Habit was still thrashier, IMO, even if not by a lot.

GHUA opens with 2 thrash songs. 'Disciple' even managing to sound like classic Slayer. The rest of the album is much more disjointed, but there's still some thrash on there. Anyways, 'South Of Heaven' contains a lot of slower songs, but that doesnt stop it from being a thrash album.

"Disciple" was a good song, but not anything like classic Slayer. That and "Darkness of Christ" is just an atmospheric opener, unless you mean "God Send Death" which was kind of distorted for thrash.

My favourite thrash metal band is Testament; maybe because I like Alex Skolnick's guitar work; James Murphy was great on Low and The Gathering as well. Chuck Billy has always been a great vocalist. On Ritual, although not a thrash album, his vocal performance was amazing in my opinion.

I did mean 'God Send Death'. I dont count intros as songs, even if they are listed as such on albums! lol To me, it is definitely thrash, even if it has modern elements in it.

I voted Slayer because they truly invented extreme music. If it werent for Slayer, there would be no black metal, death metal, and no metalcore. BOW BEFORE THE MIGHTY SLAYER!!!

I dont think Slayer "invented" extreme music...

They were definitely an influence on most of the early extreme metal bands, but I think "invented" is too strong a word. Venom were considered extreme for their time, and were a huge influence on Slayer.

I went w/other. most of my favorite thrash bands are newer bands (Aggression, Evile, etc.). i think the songwriting and musicianship are usually better w/newer bands than w/the first generation thrash bands (just like w/any other subgenre). but, it was pretty hard to vote against Slayer and Metallica...

Don't think I 've posted here.
My fav Thrash band is Kreator.
I also like some bands that are not on the list like Coroner and Sodom.
I like early Metallica and Sepultura and from the "newcommers" I like Suicidal Angels most.

Best Thrash of all time? Kreator's stuff until "Coma Of Souls".

Best Thrash at the moment? Hellish Crossfire.

I can't believe that Metallica is leading the poll. All the other bands in the list are better than them. Even in the 80s, Metallica's music was not much compared to Slayer and Kreator, imo.

Hey now, Metallica are sellouts and a bunch of massive pricks to boot, but they weren't THAT bad...

Anyway, I voted for Kreator, but was seriously considering clicking "Other" (Sodom and Overkill).

Well, yes I've listened to both of their albums. IMO Demolition was a good debut album for them. A powerful and aggressive Thrash Metal album with progressive elements but I don't like Black Future. I'm not a fan of Technical Thrash Metal.

good point.

Venom probably are the root from where all extreme genres grew from. They were a huge influence on most of the early thrash bands, who in turn influenced the early death metal bands. And many of the early black metal bands cite them as a direct influence. Of which Mayhem are the most prominient example.
