I guess Brazil isn't much without Thiago Silva, Neymar and the referee. Enjoyed immensely the match, tactical crushing by the germans and it was even more surprising to see the second half, where they lowered sensibly the level (they were walking damn it !) and still managed to score another 2 goals. Our record against Argentina is incredible. The Dutch have only lost one international match against them and that was in over time in... fuck that final still makes me cry... 1978

That game where Brazil just got gone macho on is a little confusing... I guess they didn't want to risk Brazil moving on and losing by a slim margin in the finals, which would have caused riots. May have even been riots if they moved on and won. I wonder who paid them to let 7 goals in.

I don't watch soccer at all but it's hard not to catch wind of it with the World Cup going on. I do remember seeing an info-graphic about the game that highlighted some interesting statistics though. The thing is, I obviously can't prove anything, but I believe that something went down behind the scenes.

The other thing is, from playing soccer myself, I remember there was one really good team my rep team used to face in tournaments a lot. The way soccer works in Ontario is there are "tiers" and we were in the 2nd tier of teams province wide and they were in the 1st. Aside from maybe 2 or 3 players on our team that could keep up, they were better top to bottom. But what we usually lost by was between 2 and 4 nothing. And that's with a noticeable difference in overall skill level of the teams. I see the world cup as even closer competition by this stage, no team is miles ahead of any other, so why is a team scoring 7 goals on another? I can't see any other explanation other than they didn't try, and to explain that, they may have been told not to try.

Or maybe Germany is just a super team made up the best players in the history of mankind throughout their entire roster.

If you watched the match you'd notice there was nothing suspicious. Germany simply stomped Brazil in every single aspect of the game during the first half an hour, where they scored 5 of the 7 goals in 18 minutes of glorious football.

And I find it extremely funny that someone might think there was "something behind the scenes" to explain Brazil loosing when they played an abominable football since day 1 of the WC and own their previous success to the referees (and there, I am sure there was something "behind the scenes" so they would win against Croatia, Chile and Colombia even though they were clearly inferior).

Germany simply played much better, Brazil missed a lot their two best players (Silva and Neymar) and for once, the referee did his job.

It's not the first time you have scandalous results between to theoretically good/even teams, and It won't be the last.

I'm shooting this post at 6 in morning watching Argentina v/s Netherlands match all night. No matter what the results were, match was very very boring. I think from 68 to 84 I snoozed with my good heart and missed the action completely. I woke up by a call from bud saying "Hey, shoot outs expected, whadda you say?". Real fun came in penalties but by that time I was crushed. zzZzZ

I'm looking like zombie now and still got couple of hours left to catch my office.

I find the level of this WC really low. Not only do most teams play really boring, scared to give a goal away type of football, but even the results suck. Argentina: 1-0; 1-0; 0-0. Netherlands 2-1, 0-0; 0-0..... And even on groups stage were there are theoretically weak teams it doesn't get much better (Argentina was pathetic and could have easily gone home if they were a bit unlucky, Brazil, Uruguay, Belgium, Greece.... all the same). Only very memorable matches were Germany - Portuagal & Algeria and Spain - Netherlands (but that seemed more of an accident )

I guess modern football is just like that. It is a bit amusing that 4 years ago everyone criticized the fact that Spain won every knock-out match 1-0 even if they played really well (I think if those games were boring it was coz the opponent shat himself on and put 11 players behind the ball waiting for counter attack...) and somehow I'm seeing comments satisfied with the quality of this WC. I guess people have no fucking idea of what good football is.
