Ok people, like the old one, this is the place to tell us your latest concert experiences!

I'll start by pasting my last message in the old thread:

I saw Behemoth, Kataklysm, Aborted and Lyfthrasyr on Sunday.

As I may write a report about this one, I won't say much. Just that Kataklysm, and above all Behemoth, were amazing. Really. Absolutely amazing. I've been blown away, even if it was the third time this year I was seeing Behemoth live (after the No Mercy fest and the Hellfest). But, as headliners, they are even better.

Ok, I'll just give you the setlists of the last two bands, for those who care
Setlist Kataklysm:
Like Angels (Weeping The Dark)
Let Them Burn
Ambassador Of Pain
The Resurrected
Crippled & Broken
Serenity In Fire
1999:6661:2000
Where The Enemy Sleeps...
Beyond Salvation
As I Slither
Face The Face Of War
Manipulator Of Souls
In Shadows And Dust

Setlist Behemoth:
Rome 64 C.E.
Slaying The Prophets Of Isa
Antichristian Phenomenon
Demigod
From The Pagan Vastlands
Prometherion
Conquer All
Christgrinding Avenue
Drum Solo
Slaves Shall Serve
As Above So Below
Summoning Of the Ancient Gods
Christians To The Lions
Decade Of Therion
Chant For Eschaton 2000

Encore:
I Got Erection (Turbonegro cover)

To reply to another post in the old thread, both bands played approximately 75 minutes.

Next to come is Enslaved and Keep Of Kalessin tomorrow

ENSLAVED !!!!!!!!!!!

They ruled once again yesterday !

They also ruled the day before in Lyon! Except that the audience was really all quiet and sucky, and I think this pissed off the band pretty much because they didn't play everything that was planned (I saw the setlist before the show). How many encores did they play in Toulouse?

About the show itself, I, not being a fan of Vertebrae, found that this concert made me see this album in a new light. The new songs were excellent, especially New Dawn. But I'm still pissed off they didn't play Slaget...

For the information of those who might catch them later on this tour, here's what they played:

Clouds
Fusion Of Sense And Earth
New Dawn
Ruun
As Fire Swept Clean The Earth
Ground
To The Coast
Eld
Allfadr Odinn
The Watcher

Encore:
Isa

(and two more encores were planned on the setlist but weren't played: Jotunblod and Slaget i Skogen Bortenfor)

Carcass! they played with Paradise Lost twenty days ago, it was an historical concert. PD did a very decent performance but the main dish was Carcass, when the first song started it was total chaos, the venue was at its full capacity, the bests songs of the concert were the old ones, no one thought that Bill Steer would take the mic and lead the gore parts of exhume to consume or reek of putrefaction it was incredible and the last song was heartwork, everyone went insane and ended up with pain neck. Overall it was legendary, a lot of people full filled their dreams by seen them including me.

The audience here was really receptive, it was great, and the band was happy.
For the encore, they only played Isa, in fact without even leaving stage. I think its because the havana wanted to clean the place of metalheads before opening again as nightclub.

I'll post a review in a few weeks, with pics.

Last night

Witchburn
This is a mostly female doom/jam band/heavy metal local band that has potential to get really big. I mean, they're talented and ridiculously hot, and all you have to be is hot to obtain fame in the music industry, so being talented is an added bonus. That vocalist can sing!

Middle Class Rut
I had no idea who these guys were before the show, but they put on a pretty good performance. They consist of only a guitarist/vocalist and a drummer, but they had the best stage presence of the night. I have no idea what genre they are - probably indie, but really heavy and sometimes fast. Unfortunately, they sound kind of gay on CD.

Black Cobra
I mainly went to the show for this band, but they weren't as amazing as I had hoped, even though they were still good. Again, Black Cobra consists only of a guitarist/vocalist and drummer, but they didn't really move around that much. They were by far the heaviest band and even though they only have two people, they managed to still have a full sound.

Dub Trio
This is another band that I can't really classify - probably instrumental post-rock, but often heavy and with spacey touches. They constantly were pushing buttons while playing to use different types of distortion and sound effects, but it just negatively affected their stage presence. Honestly I was expecting more from this band and I even left early.

Too bad only like 30 people showed up The show only cost $10, but it was on a Monday night

Just returned from Opeth in Hamburg, Germany. Awesome show. Perfect sound and a very personal atmosphere.
I quote: "If you don't like this following song, you're a retard and you should die". Also Mikael Åkerfeldt insisted on being David Coverdale and reminded anyone shouting his name that he was to be reffered to as 'David' or 'Mr. C'. Not Mikael and especially not Dave

If I remember correctly, their set was this:

Heir Apparent
The Grand Conjuration
Godhead's Lament
Hope Leaves
The Lotus Eaters
Deliverance
Demon Of The Fall
---------------------
The Drapery Falls

The songs are definitely right, the order may vary.

You mean if they had support acts? Yes, Cynic and a band called The Ocean. And regarding the setlist, Opeth have one set of about 12 songs of which they seem to have choosen randomly in all of 2008. But I haven't seen them too often and really enjoyed the concert.

Powerglove, Turisas, and DragonForce
Powerglove were pretty good instrumental power-video game influenced type metal. I don't think I could tolerate this band as anything but an opening band though, which is a shame considering they are really capable musicians, I hope they form something a little less gimicky later in their respective careers (unless they already have).

Turisas probably put on the best show I've seen since the metal masters tour in August (with Motorhead and Judas Priest). The whole band looked like they were having fun and they had a lot of stage presence. Highlight of the night, not doubt about it.

DragonForce were better than I anticipated, but that could also be because I was getting pretty drunk by the time they came on. I ended up leaving half way through their set because I lost interest, so I couldn't fully state whether they were good or bad.

The last concert I went to was Meshuggah. Alchemist opened for them, which was pretty bloody awesome. I'd never seen them live before and I thought they were great. The only negative was the lighting they were using. It was so bright that you literally couldn't see while they were flashing it.

It was my first time seeing Meshuggah but they were incredible. I was fortunate enough to see Carcass the week before but Meshuggah blew them away. The floor was reasonably full while Alchemist were playing but once Meshuggah started there was a surge of activity; it was like everyone in the place jumped on the floor and went crazy. The atmosphere was superb, all the guys seemed bang on with their playing and their lead singer looked evil as fuck. All around the best concert I've ever been to!

Yeah, Alchemist were very good. You could tell they'd been around and knew their stuff. I actually didn't know they would be the supporting band until they started coming out and I said to my girlfriend "Holy shit, are Alchemist supporting?!"

Montell Jordan!! Seriously

I went to a huge casino last night and he performed for free with some people for house - they sang originals and covers, including songs by Next and Aerosmith haha. It was actually really fun. I like it when musicians look like they're having fun on stage, no matter their reputation.

I have a feeling this tour is going bankrupt. Ticket sales were so poor that the show got moved from the normal club sized venue to the smaller club in the basement, which should only be used for small local shows, the stage only comes up to my shins and the stage was only like 3 metres wide/1.5 metres deep (and I could easily touch the ceiling with my feet flat on the ground). Altogether the actual room they played in wasn't too much bigger than a classroom, and it wasn't even filled - there couldn't have been more than 70 or so people there. On stage the opening bands were asking for places to crash, and Rotting Christ were selling off signed drum skins, seemed kind of desperate. Kind of depressing in a way.

Some generic local symphonic black metal band
I recognize a lot of the people from this band belonging in other bands, it seems they're making side-projects for the sake of having side-projects. All in all really forgettable

Epicurean
Not bad, they put on an energetic set. Definitely not my type of music but if I was a fan I probably would have been very satisfied.

Mantic Ritual
Fuck this band rocks. Good old school style thrash. These guys couldn't have been more than my age but they were great. Ended up buying a t-shirt and a CD off of them. Nice guys too.

Rotting Christ
They played a fantastic set and still had a lot of energy on stage despite how dismal the circumstances were.

Solid show, The Absence were pretty boring, but getting to see Belphegor and Ensiferum was awesome, I suppose Amon Amarth put on a fairly solid show as well. Last concert was the Metal Masters tour when they played down in Connecticut. Testament, Dio, and Priest. Drove 3.5 hours, worth every second. Testament's sound was good, nice and loud, Dio was good, Priest wasn't as good as the first time I saw them but they still kicked ass.

I stood up the entire show, I'm not small, 6'2'' 250lbs, but in between Dio and Priest some guy sitting behind me was like "If you're going to stand up the entire set, you and me are going to have a problem." I just said "Well then I guess we're going to have a problem, I'll never sit down for Judas fucking Priest." He left me alone after that.

hahahah, instead of "i'll never sit down for judas fucking priest" you should have just said "you've got another thing coming!

Skipped on Noctifera and KoK, then saw Samael last night. i had no interest in seeing the first too, but Samael is one of those long time favorites of mine. the show was really, really good. i was actually surprised to see that half of their repertoire was from Passage and other older albums. they even played into the pentagram which was an even bigger surprise, as i thought they've abandoned their black metal roots completely.

negative things were related to the venue, as the place was crowded and one or two audience members had some kind of intestinal disease and stunk up the whole place. next time i'm bringing some body spray xD.

Exordium/Kriegsmaschine/Arkhon Infaustus yesternight.

Exordium threw a solid performance, drum sounds was pretty bombastic. Crowd not too interested.

Kriegsmaschine was killer, but short. The guitarist was probably the meanest looking short haired guy I've seen on stage haha.

I mainly focused on trying to stay up (with varying success) during Arkhon Infaustus' set, which was a potential mistake since they seemed to perform pretty good too as I recall (wasn't really interested before the gig either).

I saw Gojira on February 1st.

Opening bands were Sybreed (boring) and Trepalium (very good groovy death metal with lots of energy).

I wasn't anxious at all about Gojira's performance, it was my sixth time seeing them, the first time I attended one of their shows was a few days after the release of their first album, and they've always been great. Only one thing can be said after this show: my God, do they still deliver! It has to be one of the most powerful bands I've seen onstage and certainly one of the best live bands I've seen. Period. My only (minor) complaint comes from the short duration of the show (80 minutes, I'd have taken 15 or 20 more) and the lack of Ocean Planet, To Sirius and any song from The Link in the setlist (or did they play Remebrance? I don't remember). Other than that, The Art Of Dying would blast away any venue in the world.

Setlist (not really in order):
Oroborus
Clone
Backbone
From The Sky
The Heaviest Matter Of The Universe
Love
A Sight To Behold
Flying Whales
The Art Of Dying
The Way Of All Flesh

Encore:
An instrumental song, don't remember which one
