i wonder if this film and book will be a bit stained now that they have found water on mars

Started reading The Martian. It's okayish, but I think I'll enjoy it more in film format.

It's about 50/50 for me as far as which is usually better. I think I will enjoy this one specifically more as a film, since the book is written like a diary and it often annoys me so far with things like "(yay!)" and "(boo!)" when something good or bad happened. The story is probably alright, I haven't gotten that far yet.

I find dairy books to be good a lot of the time, especially gothic ones, the yay and boo thing though definitely sounds cheesy and off putting.

Renaissance, a brilliant French film released back in 06. I don't know if this counts more as a "spoiler" or just as a general premise (I'd like to think the latter), but it's set in Paris in the 2050s and is essentially about a cop who has to track down a researcher for some megacorporation who was kidnapped as she was beginning to crack the key to immortality. That kind of setup sounds a little cliche, but it was suspenseful and gritty while also having a nice deal of philosophical intrigue and even a bit of romance to it, both of which I liked. The cinematography is what really sells it though. Apparently actors were first filmed in front of blue screens, had their animations translated into digital format, and said formats were then placed in 3D computer backdrops. The result is this awesome black and white noir-ish look that seems to be somewhere in that hazy territory between animation and live action. Too cool not to check out at least once.

I think Martian the book was much better than the movie. Because there were not enough scientific explanations that Mark made in the book. Also second part of book is completely cut off. So many important things happened in the last trip but they totally ignored it.

Fine movie tho.

Humans use robots that can live there lives for them with while they're human body's stay safely at home. The robot versions all have the humans disired looks which makes you super sexy and stuff, but for me i think my body rotting away at home would concern me.
Anyway it was just OK.

The Hobbit - battle of the five armies
Why couldn't Peter Jackson just face the facts that he was lucky to even make two movies out of that book. They added extra things in the first two which was understandable (apart from that stupid elf dwarf romance) to make it movie length, but the book basically ended at the end of the desolation of smaug so The Battle of five armies was a lot of added extras, and loads of BORING action scenes.
I myself didn't hate the first two movies as much as a lot of people did, but this one was undeniably SHITE!

Oh yeah, there was a plot: namely there was a girl who killed herself and then her ghost was haunting people on the internet, but that's all secondary. What makes the film good is the fights and the skype screen =]

But you have to spoil it, there's no way BE could have just googled the movie to find out more.
