24.05.2008 - 17:10 Written by Stigmatized on 24.05.2008 at 16:48 Terje could be explained something like this: The 'Ter'-part would be something like 'tearing (something apart)' without the 'ing'-ending. The 'je'-part as K7 explained, like yes excluding the 's' of course Hope it make sense.

Just remember to keep an eye for J in all north-European languages. It's never pronounced like the English J, instead it's like the letter Y in words like yellow, year, young etc. Y itself is a vowel, similar to the German Ü and to the English "ew" sound in words like new.

This is a bit of a funny thread, but I can see the problems though. In Germany the "W" is pronounced "V" so you have Wodka (in English looks like W-O-D-K-A..haha). There was a guy saying Hypocrisy like Hippo-chrissie here...very weird. I can't think of any names I have problems pronouncing though.

I always wondered what was the correct pronunciation for Therion. Is it THerion (TH as in "that" or as is "thing")? Or is it "Zerion" or "Terion?" And how do you pronounce the "e"? Oh shit (just came to my mind), and what about "i"? I have been to their show in Ukraine and I think they didn't say it once... So...

05.06.2008 - 20:15 Written by Bad English on 05.06.2008 at 10:09 It's probably like that in most languages. English is exceptional here and Spanish also has its own way with the letter J (which is probably the same with Portuguese, though I'm not sure). And I heard the letter J doesn't exist in Latin.

I believe this hasn't been answered before (the search didn't say anything), but could a good Irish person tell me how to pronounce Mael Mórdha's name? Special thanks if you help me with the album's name (Gealtacht Mael Mórdha) and/or meaning.

07.07.2008 - 22:22 Written by Sleep In Sorrow on 07.07.2008 at 21:53 Mael Mordha is pronounced as if it were written in Portuguese "melh móra" Gealtacht means "madness" and the pronunciation is as if it were written in Spanish "gyaltajt" or with Russian Romanization it'd be "gyaltakht"

07.07.2008 - 22:44 Written by Sleep In Sorrow on 07.07.2008 at 22:39 No probs...you don't have to feel sorry....I bet even some band members (if not all) aren't able to pronounce the name....you see...Irishmen speak English...there's virtually no native Irish speakers left...and you know well enough how native English speakers pronounce foreign languages.....

07.07.2008 - 23:07 Written by Ernis on 07.07.2008 at 22:44 Yeah, I know that... which's why it's interesting to see a band using Irish in their title and all, (even if it's a pain to figure out the pronounciation). We have an Irish pub in my city called Sláinte, and apparently, from what I've been told, it's pronounced something like "slontcha". We can't help but feel silly, though, for saying it wrong, lol.

I'm still not sure about GWAR, I think it's a silent "G", like you're saying War.

15.07.2009 - 11:32 Written by [user id=42090] on 15.07.2009 at 10:12 I've thought about the silent 'G', but I've always pronounced it anyway. Now, I have to ask how do you correctly pronounce Queensrÿche. It's just that the ¨ on the y confuses me. Does it have any sort of accent, or do you just pronounce it normally. I mean, do you pronounce that y like an e, or like an i?

15.07.2009 - 12:26 Written by tulkas on 15.07.2009 at 11:32 I'm more confused about the ch sound. Is it like in character, chicken or machine? I think it's the first one but I'm not sure. As for the ÿ, I think it functions more like an I than an E. So the whole word rhymes with "Dean's bike", not "Dean's dick" or "Dean's bitch" or anything else.

15.07.2009 - 14:23 Written by tulkas on 15.07.2009 at 11:32 Pronounce it as Queens Reich, that's how the band and almost everyone else pronounces it. So the ch being pronounced as X in phonetic notation, just like one pronounces the ch in Loch Ness, so as a nice guttural.

15.07.2009 - 14:43 Written by Dangerboner on 15.07.2009 at 14:28 since when is X as in Loch Ness a silent G? And Queensryche is not pronounced as it looks cause then it would be pronounced as Queens Rich, and that is not the case cause like I said it is pronounced as Queens Reich (as in Third Reich)
