I'll say that "Glory to the brave" by hammerfall, and (though it's not actually a ballad), Ghost love score by Nightwish are really depressive songs.

Any ballad by Evergrey is pretty cool they're the ones I like best they always have cool lyrics and are slow and then somewhere in there there's going to be a sick solo.

"I Died For You" and "Watching Over Me" by Iced Earth might be depressive, but not the most depressive for me. Among the ones I remember I choose "Sing In Silence" by Sonata Arctica

Not sure if it counts as a ballad but Draconian's 'Akherousia' is depressing in sound. Melacholy instruments and all. The lyrics aren't really depressing much but the music is soul destroying.

Someone Mentioned No Prayer for the Dying which happens to be my favorite Maiden song!! Tallulah is really beautiful! Pain of Salvation does some very nice ones! as does Savatage! X Japan's The Last song has to be the most depressing song for me because everytime I listen I remember that it was the last song ever by that great band!

I want to say that No prayer for the dying is NOT a ballad. What are you talking about??? Also, some of the most depressive songs are: Anathema - regret, lost control, one last godbye, flying and much more... Opeth - all damnation alboum Iced Earth - Melancholy, wathching over me Especially Anathema is the most depressive band itself.
---- Trapped in time A miracle of hope and change A swirling mass, no mercy now If the truth hurts prepare for pain ......Do you think we 're forever???

Dimmu Borgir - Sorgens Kammer (Even though its insturmential, it makes me feel a little bit sad ) (Though its not any extreme metal or black, just Nu Metal or something like that) Linkin Park - Easier To Run Linkin Park - Breaking The Habit (Both makes me almost cry sometimes ) Maybe I can add In Flames - Come Clarity or Reflect The storm Anyway, they make me feel sad. Good songs BTW

Man, Nobody is Bringing up "Into Eternity", am I dreaming or am I the only one on this site that listens to them? All of their songs are Depressing,Seriously, it's what the band is fueled by, that and progressive Death instrumentation, but that's off subject. Like I said earlier, all of their songs are depressing, and though not all of them Are Ballads, Thier most Depressing Ballad, and most depressing song period for that matter, is burried in oblivion, check it out.

anyway, that is not an order to listen to them when you're sad, its just a suggestion. Anyway, Linkin Park is actually under Nu Metal. Some thinks so, but as you said "One man's trash is another man's treasure" Though there are few hwo likes LP, I do.

I don't feel like getting into the "are they hard rock or metal" debate right now. But since Led Zeppelin is considered metal by some, I feel safe posting these songs. Cinderella - Don't Know What You've Got (Till It's Gone) Scorpions - Still Loving You Guns N' Roses - November Rain

'The River' and 'No One There' both by Sentenced always make me feel sad. I agree with Dark Snake - 'Breaking the Habit' can make you cry if you listen to the words. Another song that makes me cry (not metal) is on the latest Pearl Jam album - 'Come Back'
