I am using this thread to express your feelings for the musicians that inspire/influence you, no matter what instrument you play. I play guitar, and my biggest influences are (in no specific order) Tony Iommi, Dave Mustaine, Kerry King/Jeff Hanneman, Jon Schaffer, Trey Azagthoth, Mikael Akerfeldt/Peter Lindgren, Chuck Shuldiner, Ralph Santolla, Murray/Smith of Maiden, John Petrucci, and of course, Dimebag.
Most notable out of that list are Jon Schaffer, Dimebag, Akerfeldt, Petrucci, and Murray/Smith. They are unbelievable. Most say that Dimebag is overrated, and he probably is, but his style has influenced me and his death saddened me a lot. It's hard to see a legend like that leave in such a way. I like Jon Schaffer a lot because of the technicality and precision he uses with his rythym guitar. Not to mention that he is one of the riff-masters of metal. I can't express how much these guitarist mean to me, they have influenced me musically and personally, in a way I can't really explain.

I'd have to say my biggest influences as a metal guitarist are Alex Skolnick (Testament), Joe Satriani, Criss Oliva (Savatage) and Dave Mustaine (Megadeth). But I also play a lot of blues and if anybody cares my blues influences are John Lee Hooker, Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King and Eric Clapton.

One of my favourite guitarists is Danny Cavanagh, from Anathema. That guy plays with such feeling. Also, Dave Gilmour has really influenced me as a guitar player. Sure, the ultra technical guitarists are cool, but I prefer guitarists who know how to convey exactly what they want with the minimum of fuss.

Dimebag, Adam Jones, Mark Morton and Willie Adler. I take lyrical inspiration for many places, literature, life and of course music. My favorite lyrics would be the work of Lamb of God, Insomnium, Tool, In Flames, Job for a Cowboy (Genesis, especially), and many others. I could go on for days haha.

Hmm bieng a bass player, well it can only be Les Claypool (Primus), the best bassist in recent times, he just outclasses steve harris completely. check him on you tube. One day I will play like him m/

I also like Lemmy (Motorhead), his 'i'm in a metal band but I play blues' is something i quite like. I play a mix of the 2 with my own style intergrained.

I am a drummer. i cannot say i am influenced from other people or at least i try not to be cause i prefer the influences to come from my mind. but i have to confess that some times i find myself telling that: "fuck, he plays great and i should try to play like him or get an element from his playing". i try not ofcourse but these drummers are: igor cavalera(Sepultura) because of his groovy style, Mike Smith (Suffocation) because he is a god, Donald Tardy (Obituary) cause he is also great, Ken Owen (Carcass) because of his Heartwork work and Marco Foddis (Pestilence).

...and Marco Foddis (Pestilence).

Aha a drummer that taught himself to drum. He only took up drumming when they formed Pestilence. And if I am not mistaken his original instrument was piano or something like that.
