Botanist just made this announcement on his facebook page

So far, we're surprised few in the press are wondering what happened to "V." It is very real and exists. But we all felt that "VI" was the best record we had available, so we skipped "V." But "V" will be released some years in the future. We also understand we deserve any confusion and annoyance about these points.

This makes me even more mad. Now they're going to be out of order.

Not really that bad, because the way I look at it, it's their fourth album, and III + I = 4

God, gonna be a bitch adding that one to my Itunes and somehow figuring out how not to have the tracks added to the "I" debut

In my head those "I" symbols are tiny monoliths.

The reason the EP has the title "-I" is because it's just a re-make of their old demo which name was "-I"... Possibly to symbolize the fact that it came before their debut "I". So it's still well thought out in that sense.

It's nice, well made music but lacking that interesting experimental edge of the debut.

I'd say it's still pretty interesting and experimental, I mean distorted dulcimer isn't exactly something you hear every day

I found the debut to be atrociously bad but this is quite enjoyable, their best even.

I guess it's because this sort of thing sounds like a much more natural environment for a dulcimer, whereas the debut was like shunting two opposing elements together and forcing it to work (which I felt it did though I can see why others don't).

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. In a way you could say that because the dulcimer has become distorted, the albums including and following IV now sound somewhat more accessible because such a move in turn makes the music a little more metal-like, and thus more relatable. The debut was simply dulcimer as is, plus the BM, so it felt a lot more unnatural, but somehow a splendid complement nonetheless.
