After playing two shows at church this morning, two embarrassing things happened. This gave me the idea of this thread. Name your embarrassing moments on stage live.

1.) I dropped my pick in the middle of a song and just played with my finger.

2.) In the middle of prayer me and the band got up on stage, well my Les Paul has this switch on it and I turned the knobs on one side to make the switch like an on/off toggle. Well it turned out I forgot to toggle it off. I picked up my guitar and loud noises came throught the auditoruim right in the middle of prayer! It was so embarrassing, the bassist almost died laughing. I dont blame him it was funny as hell!

On June 21st I snapped my g string on my bass guitar and was horribly out of tune from what my ex-band members said...so I guess that would be pretty embarrassing....that was my last show with them...

I still don't understand how it happened...the strings were brand new too...I don't think I had the string tightened enough and I think that's how it snapped...I was drunk too so...

Well...I've been drunk at all the other shows too but it didn't effect my bass playing because I didn't change the strings until the last show...

It's worse to forget the lyrics (your OWN lyrics!!)..... or for example if you play any keyboard instrument, when you have to play THE last note, the tonic, by crossing your right hand fastly over your left hand to reach the low register notes and you fail and play a Re instead or a Mi or something, or two keys at the same time. It's horrible!

Our old vocalist used to forget lyrics but that was only because he was always baked on stage...

Dropping your pick is fun - especially when you're playing grindcore It happens from time to time, and the end result is always a friction burn.

But as for embarrassing things, I'm not bothered by anything. Just laugh it off and continue the show, it's the best way. As for things like that, I played with my guitar behind my neck during a faster grindcore song, and well - the guitar started sliding down my back Luckily the strap stuck to my shoulder just dangling there and I managed to save it and continue with the second riff without a noticeable pause

Yeah, in the end its all about having fun and it does no good to be hard on yourself for doing a mistake while performing! So I second your thoughts...

You shouldn't be embarrassed when you drop a pick in the middle of a performance, it tends to happen quite often, even to the best...that's why I always keep a spare one tied with a strap around my wrist.

A friend was playing the keyboard during a very uplifting song, he pressed the keys so hard the keyboard fell of to his feet, hurting them and making him screaming OUCH!! in the middle of the song!!

I took the advice of sticking picks absolutely everywhere from behind my ears to the mic stand and the guitar itself with blutack! haha i used to go through at least 10 picks each time i played. piano's not so embarrassing to screw up on although i do it all the time, learning to cover up mistakes is half the art in performing anything from dance to drama and music and the biggest advice i used to give my students was "DON'T STOP!!!" haha half the time people don't know what the lyrics, notes ot lines were supposed to be in the first place and remebering that really helps with the stage fright.

Although this seems to be about us... i don't think anyone can beat the time Matt Bellamy from Muse got so enthusiastic on stage that he practically knocked himself out and lacerated his mouth so badly he had to be taken off stage. Now THAT would put a downer on any show but at least you'd remember it! haha

Slightly ff topic, i got lucky enough to tag along with Motorhead on their tour a few years back and i remember how funny it was when Mickey from the band got his own back for an earlier slight by the suport act and while the support were doing their set came on stage and literally took the drum kit to pieces while the guy was playing. He ended up with somethng like a snare left i think! hahaha

You should have seen this one guy who played the piano at my school...He crouched as he was attempting to adjust the height of his chair and he hit his head on the piano. There was a very loud thud, and after that, we realized that he is lying on the floor, unconscious.

hahahahahaha, that was darn funny

Edit: I just remembered a few days ago a friend of mine that does weight-lifting and plays the keyboard told me he'd like to play a piano because those keys are so heavy and they'd help him build his forearms. Haha, now your story makes sense.

Yeah I carry around two synth gig bags on each arm and I feel the weight doing me good each time I make the effort...

Haven't made any embarrassing mistakes on stage myself, although a few years ago when I saw a local grindcore band playing here, the bassist accidentally blew his amp up during the soundcheck. It was actually quite funny to the whole crowd, but the guy was only a teen and didn't seem to have much live experience so he looked really embarrassed.

So a while ago on stage at church we were playing this song, and I couldnt figure it out because the guitar parts for the song were not right, so instead I made up my own version of playing the song. Problem was I did not practice enough, so during the show I coudlnt remember what I had to play next and I totally fucked it up, good thing non-musicians don't notice mistakes too often.

now you're asking! of course you do in everything i've got so many stories to tell you wouldn't believe but that's for another time and probably after i've had too many to drink! hahaha

i fell doing a trick once on stage, i don't often fall unless i'm working on a new trick so it scared the life out of me to be honest. basically i was upside down and trying get into something called an Extended Butterfly (look it up on google!) when my hand slipped and i just fell head first about 6ft to the floor. it hurt. i still carried on dancing though! i think i did a pretty good job of making the recovery look sexy! haha although i probably looked drunk the rest of the performance. xp

falling off the pole is just part of the learning process and we get students doing it all the time as well, we just try not to let them gurt themselves too much. i know plenty of stories about girls doing stupid stuff at clubs though like missing the pole completely or falling off when they've had too much to drink.

i wear hair extensions quite a bit becuse my hair doesnt grow very long and one time the hair piece i was wearing fell off on stage. looked like a dead rat! haha now THAT was more embarrassing than falling off! haha

this wasnt really on stage but it was in front of a good amount of people. my bass teacher and i were performing an Iron Maiden song (Losfer Words off of Powerslave) at this retirement home (LOL) recital that my music place was hosting. the song isnt that hard but it takes a lot of stamina to play it all. and i had been playing the song consistently for about 2 weeks and in the middle of the song i had to completely stop and start from a later section of the song because my arm seized up. that was not fun. at all.

i don't know. people's hair grows in cycles. most grows to about 18 inches and then falls out occasionally it just grows and doesn't fall out and others grow to shorter lengths. mine stops growing about 10 inches which is very annoying. sounds like crap but it's actually scientifically proven. go figure.
