My opinion matches the majority opinion of this one being an excellent album. The chunky guitar riffs, the straight forward, simple yet rhythmic drumming pattern and the death vocals all add to the excellence of the album but in my opinion the 'key' element is the keyboards used gracefully and graciously throughout the album. Also the songwriting is topnotch.

Listened to this again and enjoyed it a little more. The vocals are still not my favourite but the atmosphere here is undeniable.

Very well deserved first place in 2023. The debut is very good but this one is even better.

Indeed a great album. It feels like listening to something new and not avantgarde at the same time. The instrumental track is my favorite one, however the whole album sounds like just one long song to me, and I don't hear any Agalloch there!

After about 3 listens, I definitely find myself enjoying the first half of the album more than the second half. A really solid album that I will for sure return to.

Masterfully crafted MeloDeath Doom with beautiful symphonic and keyboard elements. Album truly blew me a way. Absolutely worthy any and all hype thrown its way.

Why does a great composition always have a problem with the quality of the vocals?

A very good band, but the production leaves a lot to be desired. The sound is not very good. The piano is unique! The riffs are good.

I’m an athlete for a living, and at the beginning of match days I’ll often run a playlist based on waves, such as this:

1. “Le Clochard” - Focus (album: Moving Waves)
2. “Adrift, Beneath the Listless Waves” - Fires in the Distance
3. “Not Unlike the Waves” - Agalloch
4. “An Ocean In Between the Waves” - The War on Drugs
5. “HYDRATE” - CORIN (album: Wave Systems)

The whole intention is to get into a “flow state” to perform, and the last song is to remind me to pound water.

Anyway, this Fire in the Distance album is great all around, but I LOVE “Adrift Beneath the Listless Waves.” Such an entrancing, beautiful track, and it’s really the song that starts to lock me in on the 5-song playlist above.
