Spent a few hours now on Darkest Dungeon. etc
Hahaha and I just opened this thread to post something about Darkest Dungeon... seems like it's quite unbalanced from what you say. As I am not interested at all in trying "early access" games, I'll patiently wait until they balance it up. I really have high hopes for it too.
In other news, Ultima Underworld 2's official sequel is getting a kickstarter as I write this... *cries*

Few hours into Blasphemous now. At the moment I think it's very good. Although I suspect that will change when it inevitably gets harder as it's already pretty challenging so far. Seems like a nice melding of Soulsborne with Metroidvania-esque mechanics, but the real draw is the immense Spanish religion / folklore-influenced pixel art style and setting, and the accompanying music. Lots of weird as fuck looking bosses and great landscapes, and it isn't afraid to be gory. Seems heavily invested in obscure side quests and lore too which is nice. Also have Gears of War 4, then 5 downloading as I got a 3 month free subscription to the Xbox Game Pass for PC shenanigans for buying an AMD processor (seems like Netflix for PC games basically). That should also net me Outer Worlds when it comes out hopefully and seems to have a pretty good library.

01.10.2019 - 21:19 Written by Metren on 30.09.2019 at 20:05 That's the last one I played. I liked it a lot for a the first island, but when you get to the second one, for some reason enemies spot you much easier when stealthing. It annoyed me enough to stop playing as I lost my power trip lel

Octopath Traveller. Quite likeable so far: lovely visual style and music, and enjoyable turn based battle system. I can tell this game is gonna be a long grind though. 11 hours in and only starting on my 5th hero. Have to wonder how long it'll maintain my interest as apparently the heroes' stories never join up, so feels a bit weird having a party who never interact. Guess we'll see. Finished Gears 4. It's very ok. Kind of nothingy after a while as once you've played a few hours you've played pretty much the lot, but guess it was just about fun enough to finish. Will see how Gears 5 stands up to it, seems a bit better received. Haven't finished Blasphemous yet, but it's kind of great to be honest. Feels hard, but in reality the bosses haven't taken more than one or two goes. Main difficulty comes from the all the death pits and spike traps about, but hasn't put me off. Will defo finish it at some point.

02.10.2019 - 00:19 Written by Mercurial on 01.10.2019 at 21:19 That's bad news for me, as I am already shit at stealth LOL. It's been so long since I played any FPS-type game that I am already having a somewhat difficult time conquering some enemy bases. And I am playing on easy mode. God, I suck.... maybe I should stick to JRPGs haha.

Took a break from Farcry 3 to play some MGS V Phantom Pain. The opening is some of the craziest shit I've seen in ages and I am definitely having fun, I guess that's Kojima for You. I don't really understand much of what's going on though tbh, bc this is my first MGS game and I haven't bothered getting to know the lore/backstories.

05.10.2019 - 22:56 Written by Metren on 04.10.2019 at 02:34 Don't worry, even if you played the other games it would still confound you. I'd recommend playing 3 and 1 and at least if you can, they kind of stand on their own and set up subsequent games, and they're the best. Phantom Pain isn't bad, just gets a bit open world syndrome after a while. It's brilliant mechanically though, just super well refined and plays really well. I just wish it had more guided, handcrafted bits (and a proper, finished end game lel).

05.10.2019 - 23:03 Written by Mercurial on 05.10.2019 at 22:56 Sounds like Metal Gear Solid LOL (based on its rep) Written by Mercurial on 05.10.2019 at 22:56 I definitely need to play MGS 1, but I need to get my hands on a PS1 for that I think, as emuparadise shut down. I mean... can one even call themselves a gamer if they haven't played that game? It's like Ocarina Of Time in that regard. (I hope MGS 1 is better than OoT though, that game is overrated AF).

05.10.2019 - 23:15 Written by Metren on 05.10.2019 at 23:03 Well part of the first game's brilliance is that it was a first of its kind. Not sure any game was as cinematic, so it might not be as novel these days. Story is still great though, but it's not so smooth to play. The gamecube remake is better to play but the rerecorded voice acting isn't as compelling.

Bought myself a new PC for my Intel Core i7 @ 4.00GHz Coffee Lake 14nm Technology Corsair H150i Pro rgb 16,0GB Dual-Channel @ 1600MHz (16-18-18-36) Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. Z370 AORUS ULTRA GAMING 2.0-OP-CF (U3E1) 8192MB ATI Radeon RX 580 Series (Gigabyte) aaaaaaaaand I am only using this to play Skyrim's Special Edition atm, silly me! I can't get over how easy it is to get lost in that game though, it's just so great. A true classic (apart from the main quest which doesn't really interest me much).

11.10.2019 - 00:57 Written by Zap on 11.10.2019 at 00:32 For the main story it is, but the way Metren is playing it and being a stealthy archer I can get maybe 40 hours out of it.

11.10.2019 - 01:16 Written by Mercurial on 11.10.2019 at 00:57 Because it takes a stealthy archer 2 hours to do something any other character does in 15 minutes? I think I played the game for like 20 hours total of which maybe 2 were spent on the main story. I never did get into modding it though so maybe I'm missing out there.

12.10.2019 - 13:34 Written by Zap on 12.10.2019 at 11:10 Heh, I actually do really like that they added this. Maybe I am weird, but having an adopted daughter actually gives depth to the rest of the experience for me. I'm always thinking about returning to my house in Whiterun and bringing her gifts whilst I'm out clearing a bandit camp or a dungeon filled with creepy draugrs. It's somewhat similar to an experience I had with Dragon Age: Origins, my favorite moments in that game were always the parts in between missions, where I could sit around the campfire and talk to my companion characters.

Probably worth mentioning that Disco Elysium is out in 3 days. For a proper RPG experience it sounds like it actually has a chance of delivering. Can't wait for it myself.

Being playing Old West Simulator (Red Dead Redemption 2) ... bought it on release, was clunky interface, but with the recent attempt gotten much better at it, stalled the plot on Chapter 2 as I'm just addicted to hunting.

Few hours into Outer Worlds. It's pretty much what you would expect it to be. Neon coloured New Vegas but with smaller mini-sandboxes and a slow-down-time system instead of V.A.T.S., which seems to work pretty well. Haven't really got very far, still on the first planet, but writing is good and the smaller world focus could be really good in the long run (apparently it's like a 25 hour game though). Even though it's not run on the Fallout / Skyrim engine you wouldn't guess otherwise tbh. Haven't run into bugs yet though, but has a slight feeling of endearing jank to it.

05.11.2019 - 23:26 Written by Mercurial on 28.10.2019 at 00:50 I found out it's on Xbox Game Pass for PC, the beta version of which is 1 for the first month and 4 after that. Getting to play (at least most of) a 60-euro game is a pretty good deal. (Also get to save some 15 on Ori and the Blind Forest, if I can get my wife to play it in time.) I dicked around the first planet's side quests for a few hours, and just headed into the geothermal plant. So far, I'm glad I didn't buy it full price. It looks perfect on paper (I love New Vegas and been craving for a crazy space opera), but it just feels so vanilla and a bit... cheap. For a game that obviously isn't. Map design is awfully MMOish, identical camps with identical buildings and identical enemy groups. Loot is awful. The combat is whatever, and that would be fine in an RPG - only they've inserted a lot of it as pure filler, it seems to be the primary thing to do in quest locations. It plays like a shooter without the actual fun of shooters, just the waves of enemies and ammo drops. It feels like exactly the wrong mix of Borderlands and Fallout. Buuut this is just my early experience focusing specifically on map exploration and side quests. It's never been bad yet, just a bit too generic. I guess it depends a lot on whether the main story and world interaction manages to hook me later on. I have hope.
