The whole album is pretty uneven, but The Pass is one of the most beautiful and heartfelt songs I have ever heard, pretty much validates the entire album's existence by itself

This album sounds more "adult contemporary/easy listening" by Rush standards, but at least this band makes it sound pretty good with the exception of the paper-thin production that can sort of suck the life out of the songs. There are some songs that don't quite win me over as much as I want them to, like "Scars" for example which is not bad, but feels like a pale imitation of "Territories" and I find myself switching over to that song immediately after. However tracks like "The Pass," "Presto," "Chain Lightning," and "Hand Over Fist" certainly compensate for it and make the album a pretty enjoyable listen for the most part.

Ordinary men hate solitude. But the Master makes use of it, embracing his aloneness, realizing he is one with the whole universe (Lao Tzu).

The thin production sucks all the joy out of this one. I guess after their synth-heavy period there just wasn't any obvious way to go, so Presto feels empty and aimless.

Lyrically I found this album to be quite powerful. That's what stood out the most to me.
A few catchy songs, good overall. No "bad" songs per se; just nothing that stands out by Rush standards.

I found this to be an overall good album.

How is it aimless?

How is it aimless?

I mean it feels like a half-baked routine work with barely any inspiration or anything special or grand, just whatever material that wasn't considered too bad put together and released. For a Rush album this is as boring and unambitious as they come.

Ok, I disagree, but thanks for explaining.

Not among their best but it has grown on me a lot over the years. So many great hooks all over the record.
