Really enjoyed this album, nearly on par with Theogenia. 9/10, and one of my favourites so far this year.

My first album by Rotting Christ and I'm little disappointed. It's not really bad but I didn't hear some great songs, nothing really extraordinary. However I will listen to the most rated "Theogonia" to get a final opinion of the band.

I'm impressed with this record. The production is crystalline (some people won't like that), the performance is as good as you'd expect for guys who've been rocking this for 25 years, the songs are beautifully-structured and atmospheric, there's a nice slow / fast dynamic all the way through, some non-metal moments which add a lot of depth, and catchy everythings .. the vocals, the guitars, the drums all have their moments.
There are a few dull passages, 'Rotting Christ doing what they do', let's say (albeit very very well), but overall this album is an interesting musical trip, played by a band who really know and love what they do and still manage at times to make it feel fresh.
I'd like to say it sounds like they've found their style, finally, but they'll be off somewhere else next time. That's why - hit-and-miss as they can be - they're still one of my favourite bands.
[top moment for me is at 3'23" of In Yumen - Xibalba (an awesome song, simply awesome). It's actually one of the best and funniest things I've ever heard on a metal record. All playing full speed, they stop on a penny, Themis clicks his sticks three times and they launch back into the blur flawlessly. Never fails to make me smile...]

Honestly I never took the time to get to know this band, but this album is really kicking ass.
The ritualistic vibe to it all is grandiose.

on a par when it comes to shittiness, I'd say.

I think I like this one slightly more (like a fraction of a point more) but probably only because I associate Aealo with that one guy spamming the shoutbox everyday by typing out the album name in all caps repeatedly. Either way, both are pretty bad, especially when looking at their back catalog for comparison. Not sure why they're content with this direction, it feels cheap and empty.

A bit worse or at the same level with aelo. i am getting even more dissapointed from this band. this album is once more unispiring. it has 5 songs that look the same (2 and 6-9), it is stupidly epic, and generally the band has lost it's "powerfullness". "xibalba" and "kata to daimona eaytou" are awesome songs and that's it. a low 8 from me...
only a huge change in direction may offer us something great again imo...

Interesting direction, but great album. I finally had a chance to listen to it, and it grows on you the more you do it. For me one of the best albums from the last year. Strong 9 since there were couple of songs that they could've improved on. Still, props for Rotting Christ!!! Now if I could see them in concert it would be great.

I fucking LOVE this album. The Metal Storm review is shitty and unreflective of how good this is.

I actually rather like this one. It's the Lady Gaga of black(-ish) metal, some pretty catchy easy listening. The opening track in pretty killer.

Aren't all reviews a representation of personal bias? I guess I'm just not getting the point of your comment, but maybe you saw someone attacking a fellow staff member's work and felt compelled to defend it. Fair enough. I've read a lot of your reviews and would not categorize any of them as shitty. Even if I don't agree, I can atleast read through your reasonings as to why you rated something lower. I don't get the same sense reading this one. It's poorly-worded, feels rushed, and I disagree with the rating.
I guess maybe next time I feel like opining, I'll make sure to elaborate more or not bother at all.

Some really great riffs going on here, as always with this band. Though I feel as though the song structures took a dive and it gets too atmospheric at times. Too much chanting and ritualistic-sounding stuff going on here for its own good. Give me the RIFFS on the next one boys...

It loses a bit of steam after the amazing In Yumen/Xibalba, but by Kata Ton Daimona it's picked up again. All in all an excellent, solid album that makes me love the new, less black metal approach that Rotting Christ have been taking for the past few albums. Really atmospheric too, which is something I love.
