Spent a few hours now on Darkest Dungeon. etc

Hahaha and I just opened this thread to post something about Darkest Dungeon... seems like it's quite unbalanced from what you say. As I am not interested at all in trying "early access" games, I'll patiently wait until they balance it up. I really have high hopes for it too.

In other news, Ultima Underworld 2's official sequel is getting a kickstarter as I write this... *cries*

Yes but its not in stream, where can i play it.

I assume you mean it isn't on STEAM? That's correct, it's available on Ubisoft's own Uplay platform and Epic Games Store. I am not sure what reasons Ubisoft have given for not releasing it through Steam, haven't looked into it, because I don't care for the Assassin's Creed series, but that's how it is.

All of this information is easy to Google, btw.

I will always prefer Skyrim/Oblivion/Morrowind to any and all Assassin's Creed games. I've only played a bit of odyssey, but the games' general premise of the modern day plot that precedes the actual historical adventure completely ruins the games for me. Somehow it just emphasizes the part of experiencing games where one is aware of the artificiality of the gameworld. I don't get that with Skyrim, I can get totally lost in the game, glithces and bugs or no glitches and bugs. Skyrim's a very special game to me, it's near-perfect in terms of escapism. The main plot of Skyrim is weak, I admit, but the experience of simply living and question that game is fantastic to me.

Those who plaid Red Dead 2, master hunter chalanges,
Anybody knows how to kill Caugor whit a bowl , I tried poison arrows, better ones I cant do it.
Same how to get perfects wolf pelt

Using dead eye dont work.

Hunting requests , where the hack I can get perfect cardinal and Woodpecker Carcass and how?
I cant find those birds, and if I do it has no 3 stars and bowl is hard, Vermont riffle does damig.

Cougar, Wolf - harder to find a 3 star cougar or wolf than it is to get the perfect skin. Dead Eye + one Improved Arrow to the head and it's game over. The hunter challenge is the absolute easiest to do. Look over the trinkets you can get at the Fence, one of them once you get the ingredients gives a higher chance of getting a better quality pelt than you deserve.

Bird carcasses? good luck with that. Varmint rifle and dumb luck.

I've been replaying a true classic - Final Fantasy IX. It's been ten years since I last played it, but so far it still holds up. I'm about five hours into FF IX and I thought I'd share some thoughts on my experience so far.

For starters, I think Final Fantasy IX was a most excellent return to form for the franchise after the entertaining and yet deeply flawed and unsatisfying mess of Final Fantasy VIII.

The game immediately drew me in with its setting and atmosphere. While I greatly enjoyed the world of Final Fantasy VII and, to a degree, enjoyed the worlds of Final Fantasy VIII and VI, I love the return of the more fairytale-like, fantastical setting in FF IX.

Two reasons Final Fantasy IX's setting works so well right from the start:

1) The art direction for the pre-rendered backgrounds is truly splendid. To this day, FF IX is one of the most beautiful-looking and nicest-feeling RPGs I've ever played; it's simply a gorgeous game to look at.

2) The game immediately introduces the player to the fact that there's a clear distinction between the "haves" and the "have-nots" in its world. While I don't remember how big a role this plays in the overall plot (it's been 10 years since my last playthrough), that such a distinction exists instantly gives the world a dose of believability and authenticity. A slightly medieval (or rather renaissance-y) looking world without "nobles" contrasted with "ally rats" would immediately be suspicious for the player, I think.

Besides setting the stage very well regarding world-building, Final Fantasy IX also does a magnificent job of establishing its tone from the start. This is a funny game with loads of laugh-out-loud moments, none of which feel unnatural or out of place. I flexed the gears in my brain to figure out why FF IX blends comedy so well into its story and setting, and I think I stumbled upon the correct answer: the comedy works so well because it comes from everywhere. It's not just the characters and their dialogue that is goofy or silly, it's the institutions of the world (Steiner's Pluto Knights as a whole are useless, which contrasts well with Beatrix' much more competent Knights (knightesses?, what's the female of "knight"?)), it's the names of locations (the "Evil Forest?" come on? LOL), it's the design of the different ethnicities or races, heck, even some weapons of FF IX's world are silly; why are there cannons behind the Queen's theater seat that shoot out anchors, which would only be useful if a theater ship was trying to escape? It makes no sense, just like Steiner's knights all being incompetent morons makes no sense. Except it all makes sense for Final Fantasy IX, because all these things combined establish a perfect tone.

With Final Fantasy IX's superb world-building and tone-building (is that a word?), is it any miracle that most players will probably have no trouble accepting that Kefka's illegitimate sons Zorn and Thorn are the ones Queen Brahne has trusted to be in charge of a secret police-type organization?

Of course, FF IX's characters are also very well-written and presented from the get-go. Not only do we get a sense of who they are, what they're proud of or frustrated about etc, but we also get a sense of who will bond with who and how their relationships might develop in the future. My favorite example of this is how Steiner immediately respects Vivi much more than he respects Zidane. What I love especially is that that bond is represented not just by dialogue, but also by gameplay, as Vivi is needed for Steiner's magic sword strikes. The best RPGs, I feel, always try to interweave the story/characterization and the gameplay in some manner, and Final Fantasy IX finds a way to do so (even if just a little) right from the start.

All that having been said, I think FF IX has some issues as well. Not being able to carry trance-states over to the next battle is a stupid limitation. The random encounters on the world map are spaced out well, but in pre-rendered areas, I feel there are way too many of them. FF IX is also ridiculously easy, at least during its early hours. If a gamer who sucks as bad at games as I do hasn't seen a single "game over" screen five hours into the game, you just know the game is far too easy.

Also, the "sexy" armor design of Beatrix's knights and the "Ooh, soft!" moment with Zidane and Garnet have aged badly, to put it at its mildest. I actually think it would better to say that both were always bad and shouldn't have been included in the game. I mean, female armor in games is rarely well designed anyway, but come on? and as for "Ooh, soft!"? yikes!

If one wished to nitpick, there'd be loads of other minor problems. But nothing else big stood out to me. I mean, sure, The Prima Vista should've been completely obliterated and everyone on board should've been vaporized considering the nuclear blast shown in the cutscene, but? who cares? That sort of over-the-top ridiculousness is perfectly in line with the game's world and mood.

In conclusion: so far, Final Fantasy IX has lived up to the nostalgia I have for it. Better yet, the game stands up to scrutiny, once the nostalgia-glasses are off. As such, FF IX is truly a timeless classic, one of the best Final Fantasy games and one of the finest JRPGs one could ever experience (unless it goes downhill after the first five h, which I don't believe it will haha).

Still never beaten that one. PS2 and X came out shortly into me picking up IX. Spent forever on VIII - had the guide, the end seemed so confusing I did the Rob from Playstation Access "spend forever grinding to horribly overlevel your character" schtick, wandering around that tiny monster island trying to eat Malboros to buff stats.

Tried it again on my PS4 - beat VII again, but still cannot do IX. This time just fucking stuck running around the post-kaboom town trying to find the components needed to turn insect king back to his normal form. I haven't been able to find them despite running all over everywhere and said "fuck it" as VII Remaster came out. Even trying to find where I was on ye olden online guides without the game giving me a mission title or pointer is unenjoyable.

I'll probably give it a go again some time, but for whatever reason, II, III and VII were so great that after VIII (and DOOMTRAIN, used to create and name hockey players after that GF), never finished IX or X.

I bought a new computer that arrived yesterday so I can finally download the Definitive Edition of Age of Empires II and run it smoothly. I'm still only good enough to easily destroy the Standard AI, with the Moderate AI proving more of a challenge despite all my hours logged watching Spirit of the Law and T90Official break down pro strategies and build orders. My APM is just not on the level of these 2000+ ELO players. I'm probably more like 900-1100 at best 🙃

I still have a physical copy for my PS1 that I play once or twice a year, usually when I take time off work. I also have a PC copy but its changes ruin my immersion. If I ever update my console collection and buy something somewhat modern, I'd love to test out the remastered version. Between that and Age of Empires, I'm only now waiting for the day a Diablo II remaster is released.

CP2077 has that same quality as Witcher 3: I've spent hours on it already, it's a beautiful and enjoyable time sink, but at the back of my head I'm constantly grumbling about things that I would have designed better. May review it more thoroughly later, but damn they missed some great opportunities with the RPG systems. Street Cred sounds like an awesome concept, but I've yet to encounter a situation I can choose to solve in a particular "cred" way or in some other (easier/more profitable/more convenient) way. I seem to rack it up pretty passively, alongside XP, and it doesn't seem to affect anything apart from access to some loot/side quests.

Backgrounds are also trivial, basically just a prologue and some convo options. I wanted to play a corpo who ends up on the streets and is desparate to prove herself in the underworld, taking some punches in the ring etc. to gain cred. But I have no disadvantages, nobody treats me like scum because of my background. Not to mention I never feel like I'm having to take on jobs just to get by, or that I'm in any way an underdog. There's so much loot, a fancy apartment (that I have no use for), and all-round feeling of safety and comfort around the city. Why the hell did I ever sell my soul to the corporations to begin with, if it's this easy to make it solo?

In general, there's a severe lack of any meaningful choices in the quests. And I mean both dialogue choices and choices of how to approach problems. Yes you can sneak around a bit, choose different ways to kill people, but it's nothing like the approaches you take in Deus Ex, Underrail or Hitman, or some dialogue-heavy RPGs like Age of Decadence and Fallout.

So if you're looking for a nice open world adventure with an impressive, immersive, cinematic story, it's an exciting and fun game. If you're looking for a good shooter or stealth game, it's very meh. If you're looking for a solid RPG, which it was marketed as, don't bother.

If you just love cyberpunk as a genre, it captures that feeling pretty well. But to be honest, the fantasy of being an off-the-grid, on-the-edge, cool underdog merc in a dark, dangerous world ass-fucked by corporations - Shadowrun: Dragonfall and Shadowrun: Hong Kong capture that feeling way better. I would also sooner recommend Deus Ex (original or Human Revolution) and Underrail.

To toot my own horn, I saw this coming. All hypetrains eventually hit a wall, all bubbles burst sooner or later. A year or so ago when CD Projekt Red posted their famous tweet: "We leave greed to other companies", I became suspicious, the cynical bastard that I am. It felt like they had bought into their own hype, which is never a good thing.

I might still check the game out when I improve my PC and when the price on Cyberpunk 2077 drops a bit, but I am not expecting anything special.

So... Cyberpunk isn't all that, eh?

Well, it isn't a great RPG, which was expected but still disappointing. (Even Wild Hunt was a meh RPG, I thought.) It's seems like a great open world cinematic action adventure, which is not my preferred genre. It's better than any Assassin's Creed, GTA or Far Cry I've known, but it's clearly in that oversaturated genre of "here's a filler quest, here's a collectible, here's a randomly generated encounter, here's some trivial crafting and superficial character progress". Horizon Zero Dawn and what-have-you. But if you rein in your expectations, the story and a lot of the side quests around the city are very immersive.

I think some of the backlash is just due to the hype, and the trainwreck console release. The game itself, had it come out of the blue, would probably be well-received. Certainly way better than The Outer Worlds, for instance. So far I'd give it a strong 7/10.

Yeah, I've never pre-ordered. Got CP2077 after the first hotfix. I'm a PC gamer, so I almost exclusively buy from digital retailer sales. I think the only games I've paid 30+ euros for in years have been D:OS2, Disco Elysium, NierR Automata and now CP2077. (And 3/4 of those became immediate all-time favorites, so money well spent.) I'm generally happy to play older games, I have 80+ in my to-play list on Steam and GOG. I might get Fallen Order, RDR2 and the new Yakuza game, though, if I get the itch and opportunity to play them, given that the older I get, the more I prioritise time over money.

I'm playing the Spyro remakes and Lego Marvel Superheroes with my 5-year-old now. They're actually pretty fun.

Closing in on the end of Final Fantasy IX. Great game, truly, but some of the cracks in the world-building and storytelling are beginning to show now. Garland comes out of nowhere and is boring and pointless. The repetitive "let's go after Kuja again, here's Kuja, bye-bye again, Kuja" story isn't as engaging as the first half of the game was, not by a long shot. Still, the characters are mostly engaging and the locations well-designed and the game never quite loses the sense of humor that it introduced so well in the beginning. The battles are still too easy, but Final Fantasy games have never been about gameplay anyway. IX is definitely up there with VII an IV (the two best ones by far) as one of the greats, even if it doesn't quite live up to either one.

I also purchased Nier: Automata an Ni no Kuni II, because of the Steam winter sale; also, because I have heard great things about both and want to play them. Gotta finish IX first, though.

Do share your impressions when you get around to it. I haven't played many JRPGs in years, and I dunno which ones are worth the trouble. That one's been on my wishlist, though. One that was well-liked around Codex is TROUBLESHOOTER: Abandoned Children. Apparently it's based on a manga/anime and has a typical JRPG story frame, but tactical turn-based combat like XCOM. Looked pretty exciting.

I considered buying Endless Space 2, remembered I had Endless Legend which I'd only played for a few hours, and spent a day building mill foundries before I remembered why I don't play 4X anymore: I don't live forever. But anyway, it didn't scratch my space itch, and I accidentally stumbled on an absolute gem I had never heard about:

Space Traders: Frontiers. It's a gorgeous indie space RPG/roguelike/strategy/simulator. It's a bit like EVE or the X series in that you have complete freedom in what you want to do in space, but there's more story, it's a lot more accessible, and it has servicable turn-based combat (both ship and ground combat) and great art style. You build (and dress up) your captain, you recruit and train your crew, buy ships and upgrade them, go on missions for individuals and factions that affect their power relations and your reputation, you can blockade and be a pirate, you can patrol and be a good guy, you can spy, explore planets (a lot of these are done through simple card games but have flavor text), trade between outposts etc. There are main story missions but you can ignore them. The universe is procedurally generated, and while it's not immense, it's large enough (I think you can also set the size). Honestly, this may be the best space game I've played - excluding some RPGs that happen to be set in space, like KOTOR. It's more satisfying than FTL, but it has some of that same sense of trial-and-error, and failure is OK.

Basically, it's Mount & Blade: Firefly.

Well, pray (prey?) for me. decided to sack up and start Bloodborne. thought I was doing fairly well. saved up enough BE to buy the hunter gear, found a couple shortcuts... wandered up some rooftops and eventually got stuck down in a giant rat filled channel wishing I could toss aside my pistol for Tom Baker's Birmingham Elephant Gun. Jumped further down after that as I saw a ladder that might be an escape. Knew there was one foe when I was going to land... and one of the corpses wasn't so much a corpse, accidentally locked to that before it moved and was promptly gutted by the foe I had been preparing for.

Will probably absolutely suck at the bosses, but will say against the trash mobs the more frenetic/aggressive combat is right up my alley. immediate response when hit is maybe a quick roll and strike, strike strike back. Saved my bacon more than once thanks to rally.

*edit - thought I'd give it one more go for the night. ended up on the Great Bridge or whatever, somehow irrevocably engaged in a boss fight with the Cleric Beast. a bunch of molotovs later, I fucking won. first time. I am absolutely stunned. was waiting for some Yakuza-0 Style second health bar. Now flush with Blood Echoes, time to figure out where to spend 'em.
