According to some Black Metal elitist fucks, it isn't about the music, but the message.
i actually lolled when i read this. i doubt anyone labeled Wormphlegm as black metal though. especially elitist. elitist usually know their own genre tbh.
Yeah, I was actually making more of a joke, not directed towards that band, but those Black Metallers out there who believe so. Like our good friend Gaahl supposedly believes this, and criticizes people for listening to Black Metal but not sharing the ideology, all the while not printing his lyrics. Good one Gaahl. That's not ironic or anything.
Thats interesting considering Gaahl is into norse shamanism or something, rather than satanism. A tr00 black metal misanthrope, even hates himself.
Still, it's hard for me to give Gaagl's lyrics and concepts a "shamanist" read, instead of a straight-forward satanist one (not the kiññ the christians shit but satanist still). Anyway, there are many cases in which people who adopt such different philosophies as nietzscheism, nihilism or even "tolkienism" and try to make it compatible with satanism. Some time ago I heard a band in myspace that by one side talked about satan and on the other hand their songs had intros from the MOVIE LOTR
I'l play the role of the elitist bastard here but how I wish internet had never existed so black metal wouldn't had reach so many idiots.
The internet is great, man! Sure there are a lot of fags in the scene, but which scene doesn't have that? I would imagine even the hardcore scene has its share of posers too.
And let's not forget, let's not forget, those Camel-fuckers who go out of their way to be excessively evil, Robin-am I wrong? Most of those dudes were kids, the rest grew up.

Well I would say that there are a few bands in the past who have had their fair stab at being the most blasphemous. For instance Cradle Of Filth probably have the most blasphemous t shirts available - even going back to the early demo days. Other bands would include Profanatica, Marduk, early Sodom and YES - Sarfofago - check out their demo tape and INRI! On teh flipside though, I would say that their are Death Metal bands who have been equally if not more blasphemous, for instance early Morbid Angel and of course Deicide.

I guess most blasphemous is black shadow ( i know no one heard of it ) and its russian hellish black metal band for guys who like more pure satanic bands !! i just recommend this one !! and also i think early arthemesia and zyklon ( first album ) ..i guess those in my opinion one of the most blasphemous , though i can mention also Infestum they are so brutal lyrically !!

Ritual from America. They spraypainted their band logo, some racist stuff and the words "Ritual was here" (lol) on a church and got 7 years in jail for it.

There are loads of blasphemous bands..what I really can't quite figure out is the word 'most'. What really does the words 'most blasphemous' entail?

Arkhon Infaustus.. do drugs! , who knows, this is a difficult question and very much comes back to the aspect of 'true' . Meaning, if a band is true in their actions and ideologies then they will always be more honest in any blashpemy's being created.
Perhaps Blasphemy is the band?

I still pertain the same thought in my initial post quite some time ago, Gorgoroth, Mayhem and Carpathian Forest. Gorgoroth has kept true to their Satanic ideology thanks to Infernus (makes you wonder if his pact with Satan really did help him become a success), and of course there was the controversy of the live Black Mass show in Poland and lastly, Gaahl's assault charge. Unfortunately though, I don't find Mayhem to be all that blasphemous any more, I suppose they "grew up". Carpathian Forest though, moreso Nattefrost still pertain ugly, perverted, over the top songs and shows and seem to be one of the few that still act and hold the old ideology of 2nd wave black metal.
I think that actions over words (lyrics) are what truly makes a band blasphemous, and it seems as though modern black metal is just a lot of talk - I've commented on this countless times in the past. I decided to do a bit of googling and didn't find much for church arsons this year, mostly political and racist acts in the USA however, in June of this year there was a couple fires and grave descricrations in Norway with an indication of so called "Satanic influence", whether those acts were related to people that listen to or play black metal seems to be uknown. http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=121083

In all seriousness though, although my assumption is that Gorgoroth is the "most" blasphemous black metal band, I don't believe any of their lyrics have been published so its impossible to know. Gaahl goes out of his way to hide the fact that he's a moron.

You're just looking to start a debate eh? Every one knows the reason that Gaahl doesn't print the lyrics, it's so listeners can find the meaning themselves, and interrupt the music on their own - not to just take their music for face value, or to be easily influenced aka: like christians do in church or with the bible. If you actually listen to the songs you can tell what the lyrics are, at least the ones in english if you don't know Bokmål or Nynorsk.
Between Live In Krakow, other live performances and Gaahls assault charges, I'd say Gorgoroth is currently the closest thing to the days of old in regards to black metal. What other bands have a creator that has claimed to have made a "deal with the Devil" and have actually maintained a prolonged career or impact, aside from maybe, Robert Johnson?

I wouldn't go as far to say generic but, yes Robert Johnson did some truly original work. As many would say, he is one of the biggest influences to metal as we know it today, the use of the tri tone, the "devils note" and all that good stuff! I actually prefer Howlin' Wolf over Johnson myself though. I don't believe any one has yet to actually figure out what Johnson's "devil chord" was, there just seems to be a lot of speculation, I've tried to research it myself but, to no avail.

There's a TV show here in Sweden which is all about the horror genre. Last time they discussed Satanism in films and music. The vocalist from Watain was interviewed and after that I think I have to go with Watain in this question. They really seem to be true to their music and thoughts about blasphemy. Said some crazy things. And I've also seen them live... and that show just strengthens my opinion.

[Servant] I shall stick my hand,
-------- into his anus,
-------- and pull out his guts,
-------- then feed him with the holy cow
I laughed audibly, does that make me a bad person?
Anyway, there are too many Metal bands, not only BM ones, having void anti-religious (and especially anti-Christian, as most metal is produced in Europe and the Americas, i.e. places with a Christian background) lyrics which just ruin their artistic uniqueness. The list is endless - 1349, Marduk, VON. Unholy Archangel... actually, take any band signed to Season of Mist and you will see thousands of repeated slogans like "zomg rape the virgin whore of God", "look at me! I am denying Christ!", "I'm possessed by an evil demon and I hope I'll get more girls now", and so on. I agree that the most blasphemous band should be the most offensive one, so NSBM should be taken into account no matter how stupid their intentions are. Of course you have Gorgoroth with their naked crucified models, Aborym featuring a killer like Faust, or as somebody mentioned before Ritual from California and their vandalism.
Also, let's give some credit to Venom, who kind of started the scene... [preparing for flamewar in 3, 2, 1...]

The race for blasphemy is the race for cheese.
most of it is nothing more than shock value.
i imagine the religious folk out there would find the bands that use logic and reason to attempt to dissect faith far more disturbing than those with silly stage antics or engaging in criminal behavior.

The intelligent religious folks probably do. The moronic, crusadics ones (like those who try to stop Hellfest) will only see those who visually offend with their stupid attitude. And sometimes not even that, they just see the names (from Rotting Christ to Slayer to Sacred Reich... and not Gorgoroth, Shining or Watain )

I'd have to agree. The so called "intelligent" religious types are still too stuck in their faith, any sort of deducted reasoning or caught loop holes by non-religious types are pretty much just dismissed, there is no logic within religion.

All other 2nd wave Scandinavian black metal? Hm, perhaps Tormentor? Though, albums by bands from '96 and '97 I'd personally say have their own sound and style within the genre. We had CoF when they were first coming out, Carpathian Forest demos, Mayhem's "Wolf's Lair Abyss", Satyricon, Dimmu, Darkthrone started to change their sound up a bit...if any thing I'd have to agree with you man, when Gorgoroth started producing albums they were creating their own style of early BM that most of the slightly older Norwegian bands had already progressed from, if you want to call it progress.

Ahaha, I was sure you're just messing with this, but then I Googled a little.... It's amaizing what kinda crap people can come up with.
Anyway, back to the topic. I too belive that Gorgoroth is the closest thing to being truly blasphemous, wheither that is merely shock value or true beleif. Then again, Marduk has some pretty damn crazy lyrics.

I guess at it's core Gorgoroth is similar to other 2nd wave scandinavian black metal... satan, blast beats, fast riffs, satan, etc. I think as far as song writing goes old Gorgoroth has a bit more eloquence (almost seems dirty using this to describe black metal) than alot of the standard stuff.
To contribute to the topic: You could say Gaahl era Gorgoroth is the most blasphemous band. Whats more antichristian than being a gay satanist? I'd imagine many a fundamentalist christian would shit a couple bricks after learning that.
