Personally i really like the bands that this country are putting out, well i am Australian so that might have something to do with it lol. But seriously i do think that we have some really good metal bands, heres a list of my favourites:
Psycroptic (hometown heros and my favourite band), The Berzerker, The Furor, Astriaal, Born Headless, Corpse Carving, Cranial Devourment, Intense Hammer Rage, M.S.I, Fuck... I'm Dead, Gospel of the Horns, Pathogen, Black Majesty, Virgin Black. Theres just some from the top of my head, but theres heaps more out there.

I know only 3 bands: Virgin Black which is a very good band, what a pity that I know only 1 song: it's called And the kiss of god's mouth or something like that, I'd really like to know more stuff and their style is unique. Avrigus: Gothic Doom, definetely one of the best gothic bands I know, just awesome band, though their music is quite depressive, but it's just beautiful! Pegazus: Good band, Power metal I think, I like very much the guitars And I know there are lots of good bands, just that maybe there are some that aren't very known

@ nick35: Really no point posting Wolfmother in the Australian METAL thread and ok they sound more Led Zeppelin style (that they have been compared with by many, just without the awsomeness and killer solos) than DP or BS ... and its about METAL not vintage rock. Apologies for sounding agressive, its not meant to be. :S

Recently, I heard music by this Aussie band called L.O.R.D. They're power metal, not brilliant but enjoyable.

Being an Aussie and seeing these bands live. Gosepel of the Horns, Fuck...I'm Dead and Parkway Drive are my three favorites. I strongly recomend Parkway Drive's Smoke Em If Ya Got Em track, sheer brilliance. I also recomend Carpathian they are a hardcore band and are very talented. Give them a look up you will be surprised.

^^ Parkway Drive are a metalcore band so "sheer brilliance" is a matter of opinion. Seen them live a couple of times and their meh, ok at best. Not my kind of music though. M.S.I is a Tasmanian death metal band and a great one at that, seen them live once they are great on stage. I got their 'Dream The Serenade' album today (which comes with a DVD of a live performance at one of the clubs here) which is great. Worth while band checking out this if your a death metal fan.

Mmm I wasnt impressed that much by the guitars, but they did play well together on both occations. They dont appeal to me, parkway Drive are just another metalcore band with nothing special that stands out in my eyes.

15.07.2006 - 20:38 Written by The Alchemist on 15.07.2006 at 06:04 Theyr sound is not compared to any band, but we can ear some Opeth influencies and a some electro stuff like Prodigy, some sludge parts like Isis or Cult of Luna, the drums are very good, with mutch diferent things, the voice goes from a clean vocal of Dark Tranquillity (ex. Projector album) to a Agressive vocal like Mastodon. We ear also some (few) screams like Cradle of Filth but in this case are good creams. I think that the more i try to explain the sound of this band, the more i get far from it. This band is a soup of styles

^^ Very true, but mainly because ive been breed on the death metal that Tassie has brewing down here. Brutal gorey stuff, bands like Psycroptic, M.S.I, Born Headless, Corpse Carving, Goreverk, Internse Hammer Rage, Cranial Devourment ... some of which that would put Cannibal Corpse's lyrics to shame

17.07.2006 - 13:15 Written by Throne of Rats on 17.07.2006 at 12:57 Well its even harder for Tassie bands to get the name across to the mainland, so not suprised some of the names arent heard. And my oh my do we breed them here, specially in the Hobart area. The brutal and extreme metal sound just gets bounced around here so much ... it great, seems like we've got our own little sestpool down here thats almost untouched lol. We also have a desent amount of Black metal aswell ... some of which is so raw and dark, it really creeps me out. The main one that comes to mind for the black metal is Striborg. If you want to know more just pm me and im happy to get our music out. Ive been doing it with Psycroptic since ive been here .. which i STRONGLY suggest!!

Lol tassie could produce a new wave of DM could be inteligantly named Tasmanian Death Metal, Familiar to Norweigain Black Metal.

Hahaha, dude i like your style of thinking 'Tasmanian Death Metal' .. sounds great to me! Oh the one man band your talking about is Striborg. The music is sooo cold, dark, raw and empty ... gives me chills, but in saying those to describe the music it does create atmosphere, just a dark cold nocturnal one... black metal fans must check Striborg out.

18.07.2006 - 08:13 Written by Daniel on 15.07.2006 at 14:00 I'm sure he can, but all he ever does is a lame little tapping thing for 10 seconds, prompting the god-awful spirit fingers from the moronic hardcore kids. Overall, I found Parkway really boring live. Daru Jericho - LORD are great . I saw them live a few weeks ago and they blew me away - Lord Tim (singer/guitarist) is amazing, and you could tell the whole band was very much into it. If they ever tour the UK, you should definitely check them out.

Definately. Black Majesty is one of our best Power Metal bands IMO. They are the ones who often open for international Power Metal bands when they come to Australia. They opened for Dragonforce a couple of months ago, and they will be opening for Nevermore in October.
