What I want to know is how come
There are women who front metal
bands, and some who play bass,
but you never hear of a female guitarist
or Drummer? Unless you Count Kitty but they Suck

I myself absolutely love female-fronted bands and all-female bands. You can see that in my avatar!! I am an old school metal maniac and there are plenty of traditional metal bands where women do a really great job!!

Some examples of bands from US: Bitch, Betsy, Blacklace, Chastain (Kate French is the actual vocalist who replaced Leather Leone), Detente (thrash metal), Fear Of God (cool thrash metal band with Dawn Crosby from Detente on vocals), Hellion, Leather (with Leather Leone from Chastain on vocals - you can see her on my avatar), Lita Ford (Lita also plays guitar), Meanstreak (all-female band - very heavy, one of my favorites), Phantom Blue (all-female band), Sentinel Beast (thrash/power metal), Vixen (all-female band), Znowhite (speed metal with Debbie Gunn from Sentinel Beast on vocals)

Some bands from UK: Girlschool (all-female band), Rock Goddess (all-female band), Sacrilege (traditional speed/thrash), Satanic Rites, She.

From Germany: Backslash, Caress, Carrie, Doro, Warlock, Holy Moses, Zed Yago.

From Belgium: Acid (excellent traditional heavy metal - one of my favorite bands ever)

From Canada: Reckless (hard rock/traditional heavy metal)

From France: Shelder (great traditional epic heavy metal)

From Japan: Terra Rosa (one of my favorite bands ever - excellent melodic heavy metal)

keep in mind, its not my research. i just found the link a while back, and started searching them. i cant really find a link on 'the great kat'. but ive heard stuff from Katrina Johansson and Carina Alfie. and they are pretty good. Carina's fingers are strange. ive been playing guitar for a year or so, and ofcorse my fingers dont move half as fast as hers. but her fingers move fast, and they touch the freat board so lightly. idk, dont exactly know how to explain it.


oh, and a few of them have been either taught by michle angelo batio, vai, or played with them or soemthing

I want to give a kudos to Angela from Arch Enemy, she is a credit to the metal scene. Most female fronted metal bands are clean vocals and although I do enjoy them it doesn't leave much inspiration for those who want to growl. Angela is amazing, when I first heard Arch Enemy I thought it was a guy doing vocals

The reason why I don't like girls in metal, is that, you allways have to find out, that they are GIRLS. I mean they make a big deal out of it. They should not.

Well, I agree with this. I myself don't make a difference between bands with and without women. The only thing that interests me is whether is the music good or not. It doesn't matter who mades it. For example I like Nightwish with Tarja, because her voice is beautiful and full of emotions and it fits well to the music [btw. I read somewhere that Tarja is not a big fan of metal at all, isn't it interesting?]. And I like Pink Floyd exactly because of the same reason (yes, and that guitars, of course )....

This summer I was on the Masters of Rock festival and saw band Crucified Barbara, which consists only of girls. And well - they were pretty, but that was all, I didn't enjoy their music. But then I talk to some men and they said to me: "Yes, their music sucked, but I stayed because they were good-looking." I don't agree exactly with this.

But back to answer the question of this topic - yes, girls can rock, as well as boys can. I don't make a difference.

I hate when people talk about woman like we are something completely different (and most of the times weak or something like that) than males but well i must respect other opinions...

I know it's a bit offtopic, but hey, we ARE different, at least in some ways. Women and men are equals as a people, but they can't always play the same roles. I'm not feminist in this case. Of course there are always some exceptions. But take note of the word EXCEPTIONS. On the one hand there are more men in the army, more men work as miners etc, on the other hand more women work as nannys or stewardess etc. That's natural.

Well, girls certainly can rock, but the most overrated vocalist in metal is female. (It's no secret I'm talking about Tarja Turunen) That's why some people are sceptical to quality of women-made metal, because they know the utterly negative example of the most mainstream one.
Btw, The Great Kat looks nice, but her playing is very sloppy.

a talented vocalist and musician, she's also really hot (But then again, that's expected)

As long as playing instruments is involved you really wont notice the difference when you listen to the music so this is not even an issue. What I dislike is when female bands or female fronted bands use this as a way to boost sales (so many sexually frustrated teenagers are more then ready to drool over the "uberhot" rocking chicks while they wouldnt give the shit aobut the band if it was a bunch of bald guys playing the same music ), but on the other hand this applies to almost every entretainement product so I guess one should have seen it coming.

Seriously, though, I much prefer a good, professional performance to eye-candy anyday. Both Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil and Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy are very attractive (I think there was a very nice picture of the two of them in the 'Hottest vocalists' thread! :p), I don't really like Lacuna Coil, and Arch Enemy with Angela to a certain degree. I don't really think there should be a divide in gender and instruments with regards to metal, but I agree with whoever said they dislike girl/metal bands using it as a commercial ploy-gender shouldn't come into it, as Rob Halford>All female vocalists, anyway

I was just thinking about the synth/keys lady from Ensiferum...Meiju Enho...She's not bad at all...
btw: Kimberly Goss is not only a singer, but she also plays keyboards in her band Sinergy and she played with Dimmu Borgir and Children Of Bodom (on tour), for example...that's all that comes to my mind right now...

Elisa Candelas Martin for sure, seeing as she's also particiapted in quite a few bands, although moreso than Kim Goss...

there is a thrash metal band from Germany called "Reckless Tide" rhythm guitarist is female. They've released their second album last mounth.I have their first album and I think the second one is stronger...

Some where along those lines. I suppose I more or less meant that his vocals are a very high pitched, scream like noise, so one would think that a female vocalist could lay down some vocals of similar style, or do something better and have a decent bm band. Because Dani seemed to have made quite a name for himself just screeching, he kind of sounds like a really pissed off and terribly annoying bird of some type. I like CoF (except the latest album,) but they're pretty big dorks.

Well, don't listen to much girly metal but not because i think they can't play, I just don't listen that kind of music, but there is one really kick ass girly band from Greece, it is called Astarte and they really knows how to play, btw they are extremlly pretty too
