But to people who already watch the show, here's the place on MS to discuss it!
1st Discussion:
Your favourite of the 'mane' six and why
Your favourite background character and why
What are your thoughts on today's episode 'A Canterlot Wedding, Part 1'?

I never thought I would live the day to see a pony thread on Metalstorm. As a furry/fursuiter though, I am going to allow this... I get to see Applejack and Rainbow dash at conventions and get to hug them hahaha

While we're on that note: Twilight Is my favorite Mane 6 member. Derpy Hooves is my favorite BG character. And as for the wedding, I loved it's premise. It had a lot of good moments. (My personal favorite being when Twilight and Candice run into the hypnotized bridesmates, we get a closeup of them, then the screen suddenly cuts to black and the sound sharply stops and all we see are the glowing green eyes. It actually made me jump in terms of how unexpected that method was.) I feel they rushed the end though.

(CBF quoting) @Vezzy "Why start a topic on a cartoon that is so massively prevalent to such a ludicrous degree that it has practically become one of the driving forces of the internet on a metal forum which does not conform in any way to the "laws" of the internet? With only a very small minority of fans, you could just frequent one of the googolplex pony sites or just PM convo about ponies? Once again, just asking." Hmm, well I guess it's just that since this show is one of my favourites to watch now - and also seeing the small amount of other MS users who are fans of the show, we can discuss MLP collectively despite how much negativity it has received from the rest of the internet (On MS thinking that it is a mature enough place to think "Hey, If you like that. Then good for you, We'll talk about pornogrind and let you go on your way with your own thing"). Also what does the 'laws' of the internet have to do with this ? I just think instead of PM'ing people about MLP which my be a tad intrusive it's more comfortable to talk about it on a forum, albeit when the main focus isn't on the negativity surrounding the show. "But Vezzy, faster than neutrinos you ask back, Why the fuck did you start topics on Serious Sam 3 and Postal III when no one cares? Well, you silly pest, it's because they're manly. Because ultraviolence on a metal forum. Also, people here seem to care enough to go on a long discussion about how much bronies suck more-or-less, including me." Im sure people would/have care(d) about your threads to do with Portal ect. but I don't get this point, if it's trying to state something to do with 'manly-ness' then, well, I don't really care if anything is/isn't manly, only by how I feel towards that particular thing . "To be fair, some bronies have done good. When not drawing pornography of little girls' cartoons" Well, I guess some have. But when it comes to porn it's about whatever floats your boat. A bit like everything really .

23.04.2012 - 18:41 Written by [user id=131040] on 23.04.2012 at 17:46 I don't have a problem with anyone discussing their favorite show here, much like I don't have a problem with anyone aside from Flower Metal voicing their opinions on their favorite power metal band, but I have as much right to post in this thread as any of you so long as my posts are on-topic, and all of my posts relate to the fandom surrounding the show. I still haven't been given a legitimate response as to what makes the show any better than any other cartoon of its era, aside from "character development" and "storyline". Honestly, I'm asking because I want to know. If you could provide specific examples then someone like me could at least say "oh, that's why he likes it" as opposed to assuming you only fall into brony culture as a result of some elaborate troll you don't even know you're a part of.

The art, the fanfiction and the vids on Youtube are some of the best I've seen. Granted I haven't been part of many other fanbases, but I'd still call it impressive by comparison.

23.04.2012 - 18:55 Written by [user id=131040] on 23.04.2012 at 18:51 Well, for instance, for character development. I guess I'd just like a brief synopsis of how some of the characters evolve as beings, and what they go through in order to experience that change. A comparison to other shows would be nice as well, as apparently MLP separates itself from the pack with its character development, meaning other cartoons of the same era lack this quality. The same for storyline too I suppose. I figure in normal situations this would be a lot to ask but this allows you both to educate someone who is trying to learn more about the culture's purpose and discuss a show you obviously want to discuss.

Account deleted Written by Troy Killjoy on 23.04.2012 at 18:55 Well, for character developement, the first one that popped into my head was Rainbow Dash (the athletic tomboy/possible lesbian of the group). In one episode, she's hospitalized after a nasty crash and has to stay in a hospital bed for about a week, which for her is boredom incarnate due to her free spirited nature. So her friend Twilight Sparkle (the bookworm) gives her a book to read called Daring Do (basically a pony version of Indiana Jones). Rainbow is initially dismissive of the book, saying reading's for "eggheads," but grows to adore the book much to her embarrasment. Her friends eventually find out about her love for the series and she learns you quite literally shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. The plot's cliched yes, but later on in the season after the episode we start seeing Rainbow at the Library (Which is actually run by Twilight) much more often reading different Daring Do books. She's also unashamed to be seen reading in front of her friends. Another example of character developement is for both Twilight and Rarity (the high-class fashionette of the group). The show all but inexplicably states that both of them have a nasty case of OCD (and Asperger's in Twilight's case due to her social isolation that's hinted prior to the start of the series). Rarity's was more controlled and nessicary due to her job of designing dresses, but it becomes an issue when she's seen hanging out with her friend Applejack (the down-to-earth honest-to-goddness farmer of the group). They initially butt heads early in the series due to their conflicting personalities (Applejack's no-nonsense straightforward vs. Rarity's mind for detail and grace), after a certain incident where Rarity is forced to "get her hands dirty" and AJ is supposed to "do things in a detailed manner", the two become much more respectful towards eachother's flaws and get along much better later on. Twilight's OCD is a different case. Due to being the apprentice of the ruler of the kingdom Princess Celestia, she's become an absolute perfectionist and lives by the belief that everything must be done on time and by the book. An assignment by the Princess is for her to send reports on everything she's learned about friendship weekly. The one week she does forget, everything goes straight to hell (And not similar to that Spongebob episode mind you. Much worse.) Her sanity slowly goes into a downward spiral, and by the end of the episode she's intentionally trying to break friendships of her good friends just so she can fix them and write a report about it. Celestia finds out and shifts the deal abit. Instead of just Twilight writing reports, all her friends are gonna join in a write what they learn about. I'll come back to you on the plotline thing. But It is easy to notice that while season 1 plots were rather simple, Season 2 got a tad more complex.

23.04.2012 - 20:14 Written by [user id=131040] on 23.04.2012 at 19:47 Honestly that all sounds rather simplistic and typical of a kids' show. I mean, I guess at least you back up your interest in the show but it just doesn't seem like MLP offers anything your average cartoon doesn't. :/ So while I don't ever plan on watching any more of the show than I did for education purposes, at least I understand why other people find it fun to watch - because simple animated kids' shows are probably some nostalgic escape from reality or something. I dunno. In any case, I still don't understand brony culture. What's with the sudden influx of grown men who find this all so appealing, to the point they're collecting merch?

Account deleted Written by [user id=122079] on 23.04.2012 at 20:13 Haha Fluttershy is always the first to come to my mind with character development... In her case, she learns to stand up for herself instead of being a doormat, while at the same time learning not to take assertiveness to the point of being cruel or intimidating. She also demonstrates the importance of overcoming one's fears, whether it's a big scary dragon or performing in public. I'd might as well mention Pinkie Pie, since she's the only one of the mane 6 we haven't talked about yet. She learns that while it's great to be energetic, cheerful, friendly, and fun, it's still necessary to be responsible and serious because life can't be a party all the time. She learns that not everyone appreciates her being so hyperactive and overly friendly, and that sometimes it's necessary to back off and give others some space. Now if someone my age didn't already know all or at least most of these lessons, I'd find it kind of sad. Nevertheless, it doesn't hurt to be reminded in the form of heartwarming stories with cute colourful ponies and a bit of humour. Whenever I watch it with other people, we like trying to guess what the moral of the story will be. And a lot of people I know say that there's at least one of the mane 6 who they can really identify with, so it probably reaches them on that level as well. I can't really speak for grown men, seeing as I don't fall under that demographic. But based on the reasons I already said and the nostalgia factor, I think it's similar to why Disney movies are still appealing to an older audience. I never really thought too much about it on the psychological level; I just watched it, found it enjoyable, found the internet stuff about it entertaining, and thought the merch was cute.

Then again though I do criticize what people wear if I don't particular like that thing (ie. SC3 shirts, and those abhorent shirt where people get their X360 gamertag and avatar *shudders*.). I just can't see a guy with 'sound' mind going out to do that .

I think it shares some similarities with us liking metal. We're basically the outcasts of society. Masculine and Feminine qualities aside, how're they any different? People judge us for listening to music that worships Satan and evil and darkness, you're (Well not you exactly but others) judging us for watching a kid's show about magical talking ponies.

Among my friends, Fluttershy is probably the most popular. RD is 2nd most popular though, then probably Pinkie Pie. RD is just very tomboyish and has more of an aggressive competitive personality. There's no evidence of her being a lesbian, though some people would say that her being a hardcore tomboy and coincidentally rainbow coloured at least makes her some sort of gay pride symbol. Appearance-wise, she probably is the coolest looking pony... And her "20% cooler" phrase is probably the most popular one from the show too.
