If I had on one side the suckers from dream theathre, and in the other side BLASPHEMER Erickson, I´ll choose Blasphemer over them I find more feeling on Blasphemer at least he isn´t a library worm, burning his eyes readin lousy notes

For me hands-down Jari Mäenpää...I really dont give a rats ass about Malmsteen and all those other wankers who can play at the speed of light and know their guitars inside out - its having the ability to play insanely well AS WELL AS actually composing good music which compliments the shredding and sweeping and what-not. Writing terrific complex music and playing your guitar like there's no tomorrow should be a combined effort and only then can you create fantastic metal!

He was surely one of the most inspiring metal guitarists ever, and what he did was awesome. Just listen to Human for example, the stuff he plays on this album is simply incredible.

For me, it's all about: 1) Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple, Rainbow) the solos on "Child in Time" (DP), and "Stargazer" (Rainbow) 2) John Petrucci (Dream Theater) the solos on "Octavarium" 3) Kirk Hammett (Metallica) the solo on "Fade to Black" 4) Chuck Schuldiner (Death) the solo on "Perennial Quest" 5) Dave Murray and Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden) the solos on "Hallowed Be Thy Name" 6) Matt Heafy and Corey Beaulieu (Trivium) the solos on "Shogun"

Gus G. from Firewind. I saw a video where he played a solo and then they play "Fire and The Fury". The song and the solo are pretty amazing.

James Murphy - Autopsy, Obituary, Death, Testament Dave Mustaine - Megadeth, MD45 Jon Schaffer - Iced Earth, Demon & Wizards Ihsahn - Emperor, Peccatum, Ihsahn Eric Pattersen - Testament Often I find the more underrated are those who stick with a project other legend have been mentioned already... Jon Petrucci - Dream Theater Marty Friedman - Megadeth & Solo Alex Skolnick - Testament & Savatage Al Pitrelli - Megadeth & Savatage Alexi Laiho - Children of Bodom Chuck Schuldiner - Death Kerry King - Slayer Kirk Hammett - Metallica Adrien Smith & Dave Murray & Janick Gers - Iron Maiden Kieth Downing & Glen Tipton - Judas Priest Chris & Micheal Amott - Arch Enemy Micheal Romeo - Symphony X Timo Tolkki - Stratovarius Emppu Vorinen - Nightwish Dimebag Darrell - Pantera Rob Cavestany - Death Angel Gary Holt - Exodus This list could really continue for a long, long, long... time

Magnus Karlsson - Who's currently with Primal Fear, has solo projects on the go with the likes of Jorn Lande from Masterplan and Russell Allen from Symphony X (Allen/Lande), started out with Midnight Sun, formed the excellent Last Tribe, worked with Bob Cateley, Planet Alliance, Codex, Starbreaker and many more. He's far better than Malmsteen, controversy. If you had to form a dream team for a metal band, he would take the guitar slot in my band choice.

Also important - avoid as much as you can Dragon Force. Those guys are amazingly fast, but they have no feeling at all and they lack the abillity to provide good riffs. I will highly recommend you Opeth, they combine great riffs with beautiful and complex music.

Dave Mustaine from Megadeth (damn! he himself is Megadeth) James Hetfield (main writer) and Kirk Hammett (lead guitar) from Metallica Rudolf Schenker and Mattias Jabs from Scorpions Björn Gelotte and Jesper Strömblad (ex-member) from In Flames KK Downing and Glenn Tipton from Judas Priest Dave Murray and Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden Tommy Iommi from Black Sabbath Van Halen from Van Halen Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman from Slayer Kai Hansen from Gamma Ray Chris DeGarmo (ex-member) and Michael Wilton from Queensrÿche There are many other guitar heroes who deserve to be mentioned, but who can remember everyone? I would like to add Joe Satriani, but he plays no metal.
