Behemoth!!....i noticed that music or metal scene or whatever is a competition..i prefer to discuss the content or material the bands had work their asses off rather than discussing who's better or who's got the killer riffs or whatsoever....SUCKS!!!

So, remind me again why are we comparing those two different bands ? coz they both start with the letter 'B' ?

Or becoming a brain surgeon or a judge or something?! Or perhaps These bands don't even play the same genre of blackened death metal! Gawd!

13.07.2010 - 00:33 Written by Zombie on 13.07.2010 at 00:28 They both play a mix of black & death metal, geographically speaking come from countries (reasonably) close to one another, have almost the same amount of studio albums, and came out around the same time. These two bands have a lot of parallels, despite sounding different from one another. How similar do bands have to be in order to deserve comparison in your head?

Lol, Chill. I just think they sound miles apart, while all the other criteria you mentioned aren't relevent.. the geographic location, the time they came out, and the amount of albums are of no real relevance.. a band from usa formed in 1995 with 6 albums could sound exactly like a band from malaysia formed in 2000 with 3 albums... or two bands from the same country at the same time with the same exact number of albums but playing differenet genres.. so, skip that for now.. about the fact that they're both 'blackened death metal' well excuxe me for not being a genre-nazi and labeling each band with a rigid genre, i listen to music without putting myself in boxes ... i REALLY cant see a resemblance in their music ... behemoth is more death 'metalish' than blackened.. while belphegor is more 'blackened' than death .. they do NOT play the exact type of music... that is why if we HAVE to categorize them (which i dislike) then we would put them in seperate categories/genres ...etc

13.07.2010 - 01:10 Written by Zombie on 13.07.2010 at 00:41 A) I never said they played the exact same type of music. If you really want to get this nit-picking just see the poll as which type of amalgamation you prefer. B) Geographic location does play a big part as different cultures & communities cultivate different sounds. Yeah, a band from Malaysia can sound like a band from the US, but more times than not you can tell they're not from the same area. C) Time they came out does play an important role because you can draw direct influences from the important bands of those times. D) the fact that they have almost the same amount of albums also plays an important role based on the fact that you can draw direct comparisons as time goes by, where they sounded similar, when they took more separate paths, etc. It can also tie in with reason C. This thread has existed for 4 pages/over 3 years now, and you're the first person to bring up this problem, so obviously there's enough room for comparison. And as I mentioned in the opening post, this is a re-make of a thread that existed in the last version of metalstorm before we changed (threads got deleted), so I wasn't the first person to bring up this comparison.

And even if they did sound "miles apart", what would it matter? If someone made an Iron Maiden vs Cannibal Corpse poll, I'd vote. As long as the OP explained their answer, I'd say it would be legit.

Behemoth is godly among blackened death bands so I voted for them but Belphegor isn't bad. They have a few solid releases.

Behemoth by a long shot. I don't mind Belphegor, but I think they take the black influences too far in that they become a black/death hybrid.

I don't like either band, but I would listen to Behemoth rather than Belphegor any day. Though Behemoth may not be the most interesting band in existence, at least they are associated with more depth and ideological intrigue than Belphegor will ever be. I honestly can't take a band that names their songs "Bondage Goat Zombie" and "Sexdictator Lucifer" seriously. This attempt at combining sexuality and Satan worship is laughable at best and idiotic at worst; thus, I respect Behemoth more greatly than I respect Belphegor.

Both bands are an absolute bore, but but Belphegor's worse because at least Behemoth's music and image are tolerable. Belphegor's image is fucking stupid. Bondage Goat Zombie? LAAAAAMMMEEE.

All of Belfaggot's (sorry couldn't resist lame joke ) albums are boring plus totally stupid gimmicky image and all. Musically very lame as well

Agree with the lame image of Belphegor but musically I like them until 2000 and the last album was very good too. Seen them live a few times and they never dissapointed. Edit: I voted Behemoth for beeing better live and having more good releases such as Evangelia Heretika and Chaotica.

I voted for Belphegor. I liked Behemoth's old albums - Zos kia cultus, Demigod... They are definitely masterpiece, but sadly Behemoth started deteriorating slowly after those albums & especially after Evangelion album their music became crap & snoozfest. They definitely lost the aggressiveness & power they had before. Even Nergal's voice became worse. Behemoth became just another mainstream band to please the mob & betrayed their old style, while Belphegor stayed true to their roots. Belphegor never disappointed with their albums & if Behemoth became slower & sluggish, Belphegor on the other hand keeps getting better & better. And I respect Belphegor much more for staying true to their style & thinking of their fans unlike some sellout bands who change their style into a crap to gain new fans & don't care about their current fans. So yeah, I definitely prefer Belphegor's fast blasting, brutal music over Behemoth's sluggish music. Especially their last two albums are disaster. Can't even think of a single memorable track besides "blow your trumpet, Gabriel".
