Definetely it looks the biggest duel metal scene has ever seen.:lol:

Nightwish, I loved this band but Tarja is a poor example for females as she claims to not even like metal and lets face it, is a diva.

Angela Gossow is overrated IMO. If you want to hear female growlers, check out the Russian brutal death metal band Merlin. Their vocalist makes Gossow look like a kitten.

On a side note, someone told me that Gossow posed topless in Kerrang magazine. How true is this?

We had this concert called 'Girls in Rock' couple of days ago, well as the name say, there were only girls playing (i guess) tho i have not been there.

So, and I adore Mary Abaza from Brutal Death Metal Band MERLIN.This band was formed in 1992 by a unique female vocalist and bassist, Mary ABAZA and one of the best Russian guitarists, Alex IOFFE.
It need to say that MERLIN formed back in the 1990's, long before anyone had heard of Sinister, Shadow, or Arch Enemy's front women!
Besides such a great composer of 20th century as Igor Stravinsky is her grand grandfather. Why is Mary Abaza a unique female vocalist? Because she has got a unique voice of large compass from contralto to soprano and withal she can sing by growling. She is a very cool growler (Even Eric Rutan confered it). She has a jazz education and as she said her self, it helped her to find her own way of singing death-metal applying some jazz tricks.
By the way, their latest album "Brutal Constructor" has been included in Europian top10 deathmetal albums of 2004.

BUT, I also respect Sabina Classen from Holy Moses (I think her voice is ideal for thrash metal) and Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy, because each of these female vocalists has her own original style. And I know that Angela of Arch Enemy started to write a book about "Females in Metal" and M.Abaza also has already given her an interview.

Yes, girls certainly can rock..... about my area: there are almost no girls into metal (I've never encountered anyone of them).... they're more into love songs, hiphop and all these types of crap
