Belphegor. That names bothered me for a while. Celtic Frost. I've been pronouncing it with a "k" sound all my life, but recently i've heard the word celtic said differently. with a "s" like sound.

Oh yeah, Celtic has for ages been such a confusion. It's like Dee-i-side vs Day-i-side. Half the world thinks one and half the other. I think it is with a 'c' sound. You can really say both though. I call the Celts the Kelts rather than the Selts. Even before the band there's been debate as how it's pronounced. Yes, I agree with you about Belphegor too.

@Ozman: Haha ok then. I once played against a basketball team called 'Celtic' they were possibly Seltic or Seltec. I could be a sports thing! :-O @Windshear: Ensiferum is pronounced basically how it looks. En-siff-er-um. All together you don't sound much of the second 'e'. @pyroleprechaun: Isn't it more like Necro-fag-ist, with the 'a' sounding like the a in 'lad'. So not 'fag' as 'faggot' but sounding like 'lad'.

04.09.2006 - 22:00 Written by Daru Jericho on 04.09.2006 at 17:57 nekro is correct. I'm not too sure whether the 'a' should be pronounced as in 'apple' or 'ape', but I believe it is the latter. The 'g' is hard, as in 'disguise', though.

Looking at the pronunciation key of a dictionary entry of the base word "Necrophagia" (link) I'm quite sure Necrophagist is pronounced "Nekro-fay-gist" (where g is pronounced like 'j' and 'dg' in judge).

05.09.2006 - 20:49 Written by KryptoN on 05.09.2006 at 01:10 Actually, come to think of it, since necrophagia is a scientific term, the 'g' will be soft. I was thinking along the lines of the original Greek (where all g's were soft, except two g's, pronounced 'ng'), but you've got the correct pronunciation.

05.09.2006 - 20:58 Written by [user id=5630] on 04.09.2006 at 00:06 Sorry for the double post, but I just saw this. It's not 'may' as in the month, it's 'meh' as in 'medicine'. So the proper pronounciation is 'Meh-geh-death' With meh as above, 'geh' as in Geddy Lee (well, okay, 'get', then ), and death as in....death.

06.09.2006 - 16:31 Written by [user id=5630] on 05.09.2006 at 23:23 Well, in normal speech the pronounciation slips a little, but it may be due to you being American-there's a lot of emphasis on the vowel sounds in the American accent. I just pronounce it as it's written; Mega death. Most people I know pronounce 'mega' like the original Greek, but most classical words get bastardised at some point...out of interest, how would you say 'megabyte'?

@Insinerate: Hehe Megadeth sounds funny the way you say it... its because of your accent yes. Heres a weird one. Opera IX, is it Opera eye ex, or Opera 9? and Edenbridge, is it Eeden or is the e like in rEd?

Necrophagist is not pronounced with an "fay" sound in the middle. I know this because I saw them live and Mohommed pronounced it as "fadge."

Roman numeral IX is just 9. Contrastly, for Symphony X, you don't necessarily say 'Symphony X', but (e.g.) Dante XXI by Sepultura is 'Dante 21', because it's clearly Roman numerals. So I say it should be 'Opera 9'. Edenbridge is pronounced ee(as in 'eeek!')-den-bridge.

I always thought Dodheimsgard was pronounced duhd-hyms-(like the word 'high' with an 'ms' on the end)gard, so sort of on the right lines as Destryphior but I'm not entirely sure what he meant by the 'hims' pronounciation bit.
