Ok people, like the old one, this is the place to tell us your latest concert experiences!

I'll start by pasting my last message in the old thread:

I saw Behemoth, Kataklysm, Aborted and Lyfthrasyr on Sunday.

As I may write a report about this one, I won't say much. Just that Kataklysm, and above all Behemoth, were amazing. Really. Absolutely amazing. I've been blown away, even if it was the third time this year I was seeing Behemoth live (after the No Mercy fest and the Hellfest). But, as headliners, they are even better.

Ok, I'll just give you the setlists of the last two bands, for those who care
Setlist Kataklysm:
Like Angels (Weeping The Dark)
Let Them Burn
Ambassador Of Pain
The Resurrected
Crippled & Broken
Serenity In Fire
1999:6661:2000
Where The Enemy Sleeps...
Beyond Salvation
As I Slither
Face The Face Of War
Manipulator Of Souls
In Shadows And Dust

Setlist Behemoth:
Rome 64 C.E.
Slaying The Prophets Of Isa
Antichristian Phenomenon
Demigod
From The Pagan Vastlands
Prometherion
Conquer All
Christgrinding Avenue
Drum Solo
Slaves Shall Serve
As Above So Below
Summoning Of the Ancient Gods
Christians To The Lions
Decade Of Therion
Chant For Eschaton 2000

Encore:
I Got Erection (Turbonegro cover)

To reply to another post in the old thread, both bands played approximately 75 minutes.

Next to come is Enslaved and Keep Of Kalessin tomorrow

Insidious Decrepancy and Desolation didn't show up last night.

Bled
They actually changed their name recently, but I can't even remember because I was drunk as fuck when I showed up. This was my second time seeing the band, and they aren't anything special. The drummer does vocals, and is pretty good at both, but they seem to be fairly young and inexperienced.

Embryonic Devourment
This was my third time seeing this band, and I'm starting to get a little tired of them. They put on their usual good show, but I just watched from the bar.

Drawn and Quartered
This was also my third time seeing this band, and they were awesome as usual. They played songs from Merciless Hammer of Lucifer, Return of the Black Death, and Hail Infernal Darkness.

Saw Mercenary last night...it was pretty good, but if you don't like their new album you would have hated the show 'cause they played the whole album and just 3 old songs. Good fun anyway

WATAINS FIRST NORTH AMERICAN GIG!
There was a bunch of black/grindcore/death metal bands playing, it went on for about 6 1/2 hours, but the only bands worth remembering were Divinity, Cephalic Carnage and of course Watain, who I believe destroyed every other band, even Cephalic Carnage who also kicked ass pretty hard.

Last was:

Nevetherym & LORD. Two great aussie bands.Although I doubt anyone on here has heard of them .

But I am going to see Immortal soon!

Than Mayhem!!

Yes!!!!

I know them. LORD are funny guys and Rob from Nevetherym is pretty awesome. I saw both play with another band called Anno Domino at Nevetherym's EP launch at The Empire Hotel.

Last shows were Immortal - Fucking great! I got down the front of the stage to the left and could see everything. The two young, scrawny-looking guys next to me got pushed away from their spots against the barrier by two bigger guys. I hate it when people push to the front and force their way in. Most people earn those spots up the front and it pisses me off seeing others force their way in. [/rant]

And Ozzy Osbourne - I'm glad to say that I didn't pay for tickets to go and see him. Instead I won tickets from KMW. He's so bad live it's almost good. We left just after "War Pigs".

Yeah, that almost happened to me at GnR, luckily my elbow just happened to connect with the guys throat and I got left alone afterwards.

Haha, nice work.

If not for the fear of being kicked out from seeing a band that I have paid to go and see, I'd kick or punch them (whichever limb was closer) where it hurts. If you're at the front and you take a swing to someone, you're in plain sight of the security guards though, unfortunately.

thats where donkey kicks come in handy, security cant see. Anyways, security actually saw me at GnR and he even nodded at me after I did it because he previously asked the guy to quit trying to shove people out of the way.

So, just got back from:
Dimmu Borgir
Behemoth
Keep Of Kalessin

Keep Of Kalessin totally kicked ass, their set was so painfully short if given perhaps 10-15 more minutes, they probably would have stolen the show. Behemoth was totally awesome, not very much stage presence, but altogether had the most solid set of the night. Dimmu Borgirs set was a complete fucking mess, I'm really glad I wasn't going for them or I would've cried. They were so terribly boring I had to go outside and smoke for most of there set, just dreadful!

After the show I was able to meet Thebon and Wizziac. Me and Thebon talked about record companies and other bands for a while, pretty funny guy.

Yesterday I attended the Nightwish + Pain show in Lyon. A good show, nothing amazing but really enjoyable nonetheless. Here are a couple of thoughts about the night:
- It's fucking cool to see a "big" show in an impersonal venue with thousands of people once in a while. I'm not really used to it and it's really a different experience compared to the usual more or less underground shows I'm attending.
- With this said, I hate so much fanboyish audiences, with people crying when the band arrives onstage and a look in their eyes that says "I've just left my tiny brain at the door for the whole show, I might or might not grab it back when leaving".
- I definitely can't stand gothic and metal kids. They way they look down on everybody as if they held all the secrets of the world, the universe and far beyond makes me want to reack out for their heads and break them open on my knee, or any other painful tool.
- Pain's music shouldn't be released on albums but just played live instead. Though I'd rather see Tagtgren with Hypocrisy.
- Unlike some other famous bands I won't name here (the name of one of them starts with Within and ends with Temptation), Nightwish still have a fucking heavy sound when they play live. I was really happy about that. The sound really kicked ass.
- Marco Hietala is an amazing singer. I didn't expect his voice to be exactly the same as on album. Yet it is.
- Annette Olzon, while a decent singer, sounds quite weak.
- Marco Hietala owned the Olzon girl every time they sang together.
- That comforts me in thinking that Nightwish should have kept Hietala only on vocals when the Alien was kicked out.
- The Poet And The Pendulum is probably the best song they ever wrote, and was definitely the best moment of the set.
- The Islander is a very cool song
- Amaranth is probably the worst song they ever wrote.
- The setlist was really odd and could have done with a couple more of old songs (they didn't play anything older than Wishmaster)
- Though given the rendition of "Wishmaster", it's probably better they only played recent tunes.
- Did I mention that Marco Hietala is a much better singer and frontman than the Olzon girl?

The setlist in Lyon:
Bye Bye Beautiful
Dark Chest Of Wonders
Whoever Brings The Night
The Siren
Amaranth
The Islander
The Poet And The Pendulum
Dead To The World
While Your Lips Are Still Red
Sahara
Nemo

Encore:
7 Days To The Wolves
Wishmaster
Wish I Had An Angel

Tonight, back to underground shows with Year Of No Light, Caldera and Llorah. Mainly going for Caldera, a cool French post-metal band.

ive been to 2 since Ive last signed on.

Prog Nation-Dream Theater, Opeth, Between The Buried & Me, 3.
Terrible, the first band, 3, was very good, then BTBAM came on and ruined it, then Opeth came on and played a very good set. I had to leave within 2 songs of Dream Theaters set because of how incredibly bored I was. There was also an incredible amount of idiots at this show, the ratio to cool people was not good, which kind of killed the mood.

Gigantour!
High On Fire was incredible! They shouldve had a longer set. JFAC came on which meant time for me to go outside and smoke and slam back a few beers. The Bodom came on and totally stole the show, despite the set song selections being sort of weak songs. In Flames came on which meant more beer time, but for some reason they cut off the beer supply early, so I had to listen to In Flames, it was pretty bad. Megadeth came on and played a great set but unfortunately sound qualities kept them from being the band of the night.

The last band I saw live was Secrets of the Moon in Paderborn (headliner). It was a good show, but by the time they started playing everyone was drunk and passed out some where. When I looked behind me there were about 25 people it looked like. They had a few technical problems as well, but life goes on!

As for other bands, I can't even remember, I was backstage with sG and LSK conducting an "interview", haha, great shit!

Set list, can't remember too well, but here are a few songs they played

SECRETS OF THE MOON:
Cosmogenesis
Ordinance
Seraphim is Dead
Ghost
Miasma
Praise Kaos
Carved in Stigmata Wounds

Thats was a month ago...but that's just about right. My memory is blurred together with past shows.

CANDLEMASS!!! first US tour in 17 years, and their first time ever in Seattle \m/ buuuuut, the crowd was really weak and the venue was only half full >:(

Here's their setlist...I might be missing one or two songs, but it's fairly accurate, considering how much I drank -

Gothic Stone
The Well of Souls
Mirror, Mirror
Solitude
Crystal Ball
Emperor of the Void
Devil Seed
Darkness in Paradise (I think it was this song, but I didn't really recognize it. It started slow, and then got heavy and fast)
some song where the vocals go "OOOOOOooooOOohhhOOOOHHHHooooHHHHH" - someone help me out with the name!
Of Stars and Smoke
At the Gallow's End

ENCORE

Black Dwarf

They didn't play Bewitched

Rob fucking Lowe was obviously drunk, but he hit every note perfectly and Mappe fucking shredded like a madman. It was one of the best performances I've ever seen.

How do you mean "the crowd was really weak"? In what sense?

As far for the venue being half full... get used to it, this is doom... the single most underrated genre in metal ever. Would you have gone to a thirdtier folk metal band chance are it would be sold out (that's how overrated folk metal is)
Although doom has proved its staying power (unlike loads of fads within metal) it will never get so popular that it seels out most shows.
Here in the Netherlands Candlemass also don't sell oout venues. The only doom bands that manage to seel out venues are currently My Dying Bride and the much advertised and hyped Swallow The Sun (guess what? both appeal top loads of teenies and girlies, the sort of people that only like one doom band)

They were completely silent, no matter how hard Rob tried to interact with us, aaaaand what was really embarrassing to me was the numerous times Rob pointed the microphone at the crowd to get them to sing obvious sections of songs, and all you heard were confused mumblings.

BTW, I shook Rob's hand and bought a shirt with the cover of the new album on it
