Which bands do you know from Portugal? Most of you will probably say Moonspell but fortunately there is more to us than Moonspell. So let me know what are the bands you're actually familiar with...

Well, my connection with the portuguese metal scene was more intense a few years ago, now I just know something by friends who go to events. Anyway, here's a short note about bands I know and like:

  • Bleeding Display: saw them 5/6 years ago and the performance was brutal! One of the most impressive bands in the stage Ive seen.
  • GOD: well, Castor is a nice fella but the time for the type of folk they play is vanishing...
  • My Enchantment: great black symphonic metal. I know them since the beginning and is extremely nice to see how professional they become.
  • Artworx: their ambition could led them to a great level. For now they are one of the best progressive bands around
  • Why Angels Fall: even the history of the band is down-tempo.. it's a shame they pass so much time without appearances because they have a strong and fascinating metal.
  • Opus Draconis: I don't like the sound they produce but is nice to see how active they are in the portuguese underground.
  • Mind Overflow: Another band with great composture and ambition. Their sound is much Arch Enemy look alike
  • Process of Guilty: for me is the best band in Portugal. Amazing doom, I think is even better than Swallow the Sun or Forest of Shadows..
  • Theriomorphic: great band too, unfornately just saw them once
  • Primitive Reason: not quite metal but still great

well, enough for now

I don't find Mind Overflow similar to Arch Enemy, where do you get that impression? They play prog and the singer doesn't growl

And I agree about Bleeding Display, I should try to add them here, maybe I'll talk to Ivor. I managed to add My Enchantment though.

Their music from the video in youtube remembers me ArchEnemy because the riff is very strong and Irina is constantly the main focus. In fact, Irina doesn't growl like Angela but the sound is far away for what I consider progressive.

Is just a personal impression, but from that video I say their music is more closer to nu metal than prog (the strong and counter-balanced guitar riff + bass relevance are 2 main ingredients to nu)..

Oh, your basing your opinion on one video. Well, I watched them live twice and believe me, they have a lot of progressive metal elements on their music, especially the bass player and the guitar player are adding them. Even in the structures of the songs.

But that's only my opinion

I must confess that I just based my opinion in the concerts I saw in the past (more than 1 year ago) and in 2 or 3 recent songs, anyway if you say they are so good now, I will check it

I think they were always good, so maybe you shouldn't count on that a lot

I always thought they were talented and had potential to release good albums.

But now, when i followed the link you gave, i really enjoyed their sound, maybe because of me also, im more into black metal right now, and i can see beauty beyond growls, hehe...

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already but Bosque is a pretty good band if you're into Funeral Doom metal. So far they've released a demo and a split

About Bosque...

It seems like their site is http://www.bosque.pt.vu/

And to listen to some songs i went to their unofficial myspace: http://www.myspace.com/bosquedoom

Well, i think this band is still 'young', because it has few songs, and its not very known...
About the musics, wow, it really is DOOM metal! hehe...
But i found some songs to have a nice mood...

But i didn't get a great fan of this band really... hehe...

I like their logo!

The best recent portuguese metal album is from Heavenwood (better than Night Eternal). They sure deserve more recognition.

There's The FirstBorn but their sync is awful which is a shame because they have good potential.

Gwydion is a decent folk metal band.

Didn't gave the trouble to read all pages but I suppose these 3 were left out.

Just a note, portuguese metal overall shows glimpses of talent but way too off to compete with the international market. It lacks versatility as well.

So i listened to "Everblasting Struggle" by Epping Forest and i must say that it's one of the best portuguese metal albums of this year. Cool riffing, fast drumming and i think that the keyboards bring their music to another level.

Thanks a lot my friend.

MysticCosmoS [Epping Forest]

That was unexpected! ahah
Nice job with that album, i noticed that you guys were formed in 1998 but only released your debut 10 years later. Do you already have more material to make a new album?

eheheh
Sorry about this late reply, but I use so much forums that I could not be updated to all of them...
There's nothing recorded yet, but yes, we are already working on a new album, but is still a bit early to advance more info's about that eheheh we are not the kind of people that plan when is to compose and when is to rehearse ahahah we just do it.

I guess I should check Epping Forest!

If the tracks on myspace or our website are not enough, you can check the album on any Fnac store... well at least if your leave on south of Portugal because by the 4th time the album is sold out on the Norte Shopping Fnac, but there are some copy left on Mar Shopping or Gaia Shopping and of course Piranha, Lost Sound... and so on...
In Lisbon you have too Cave Discos which after being sold out the first copys, we have sent more 5 copys to that store

And if you wish to buy it, we appreciate that you buy it from us, since it's better to sell one CD from the band than giving a big part to a multinational, and of course i't's cheaper
