Well, nothing says "good, heavy, kick ass metal" like B.C. Rich, used in almost every genre of metal, a weapon of choise for many bands, a shape that defies all standards...
Great quality does not have to come with a 10000$ price tag, and B.C. Rich can show it.
With NT and their unique IT guitars the sure do give a good fight, and one hell of a good sound...
among their guitars are:
Beast http://www.bcrich.com/beast_nt.asp#
Bich http://www.bcrich.com/bich_10.asp
Iron bird (looks a bit like a Dean) http://www.bcrich.com/ironbird_one.asp
Mockingbird http://www.bcrich.com/Mockingbird_special.asp
Stealth http://www.bcrich.com/stealth.asp
Draco http://www.bcrich.com/draco.asp
Virgin http://www.bcrich.com/virgin.asp
Virgo http://www.bcrich.com/virgo.asp
Warlock http://www.bcrich.com/warlock_nt.asp
Warbeast (a combination of Beath an Warlock) http://www.bcrich.com/warbeast_guitar.asp
Zombie http://www.bcrich.com/zombie.asp
Widow (mainly basses) http://www.bcrich.com/bass_widow.asp
and more treditional ones like V and the ASMOutlawAssassinGunslinger

Some of the users of B.C.Rich are:
Kerry King (Slayer)
Paolo Gregoletto (Trivium)
Vortex (Dimmu Borgir)
Terrance Hobbs, Guy Marchais, Derek Boyer (Suffocation)
Pat O'Brien (Cannibal Corpse)
Steve Smyth (The Esseness Project)
Chuck Schuldiner (Death)
Justin Adams (Saint Diablo)
Lord Ahriman, B-Force, Chaq Mol (Dark Funeral)
Phil Campbell (Motorhead)
Sakis (Rotting Christ)
Teloch (Nidingr, Gorgoroth)
Max Cavalera (Sepultura)
Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath)
and many, many more

So, what is your favorite? which do you own?

I owned a string-thru-Bich with EMG's. I think it was the NT model for the late 90's. Total piece of shit. Hated it. Cheap hardware, crappy connection pots, and the EMG battery supply was in a retarded location. I would never buy one again. Now on the other hand, I own a Mockingbird exotic classic. Now that is a FINE piece of craftsmanship and plays wonderfully. Never had a problem with it and never expect I will. It definately isn't a metal machine, as a matter of fact I play mainly blues and garage rock with it, but it is still a killer guitar.

I think a lot of the BC guitars are too hyped, all show and no go (as far as the "metal" guitars go). I have played some of their top $ axes, my bud owns an assassin pro, and thing rips hard, but he also paid over $900 for it. At that price I would rather buy a Jackson and sup it up, or better yet, save-up a little extra dough and get a base line les paul. Those make real nasty metal machines when out-fitted correctly.

I currently own two BC Rich guitars.

The first I picked up is a Beast. The second is a KKV.

The overall feel I get from them is absolutely fine, though my favourite definately has to be the Beast. The only thing I could consider a drawback is that I feel they are more designed for rhythm guitar than lead, unless you don't care to go to the higher regions of the neck. For some reason, I find that the design of the guitar gets clunky and awkward around there.

But being primarily a rhythm guy, I'm fine with that. As for how "showy" they are, I find that's part of the appeal. I want something as ridiculously over-the-top as the stuff I write.

Never cared for B.C. Rich's. Always found that there was something better within the price range.

That and i personally think they pretty ugly.... Excluding the Beast!

Now if the just made a 7 string Beast....

I have the Warlock (bronze, but for a first guitar it's not bad) with the B.C.Rich BDSM pickups (say what you want, I like their sound).
Draco, I can understand what you mean, but the NT models have easier access to higher frets, and even on the bolt on after getting used to it you would find it rather simple.
the Rich guitars are pretty good for their price, Branzig, the 900-1000$ ones are usually the NT models which are very good for heavier types of metal (black, death, even thrash...)

So what your saying is....

the only way I'm getting a BC Rich 7 string beast is for custom shop price?

I'll pass...:(

Plus not all 7's are expensive! I got my C-7 Hellraiser for $600, And you can pick up a nice RG7620 on Ebay for $6-700.

Or if you want lower, I know washburn has a $200 7 awhile ago, and Ibanez makes the RG7321 for $400.

My Schecter was new(sales rule) and yes, the rg7620 will be second hand, but when I played my guitar teachers, it was the best 7 I ever had my hands on!

I would have gotten one if I only knew they existed!

BC Rich basses are absolutely AWFUL unless you shell out 1 or 2 grand for a custom model or something. but then again, if you're gonna spend that much money on a bass, get an Alembic or a Modulus or a Warwick or something, you know, nice for your money.

when buying your first guitar you also need to buy an amp, when buying the second one you already have the amp of the first so the over-all costs are lower

Despite being prone to the odd bout of Schuldiner/Schaffer worship, I personally really dislike B.C. Rich guitars. Think the shapes usually look a bit silly, never liked the feel of the ones I've played at all and (despite some of the great artists who use BC) I prefer the tones I've heard from.. well.. every other guitar manufacturer, metal or otherwise, to those of B.C.

Plus, would just look wierd as hell playing any other genre imo

They have some "silly" looking ones as you say, but most are really nice looking (warlock, beast, zombie, stealth, virgo...), they also have V guitars, and some "normal" ones like the ASM, and some that will look weird if you play metal on them, like the Mockingbird...
and the sound is a lot to be associated with the pick-ups rather than the guitar itself, although I like the B.C.Rich BDSM pick ups, you can always use the more widely used EMG...
