In these dark ages when new labels pop out like mushrooms after the rain and release, usually without much distinction, any album that shows a little instrumental skill or a just a knack for copying old bands, it is not so often that a band coming out of nowhere takes you completely by surprise. It is even rarer that this band out of nowhere proposes an album as mature, intense and personal as the Swedish melodeath proggers of In Mourning have with “Shrouded Divine”.

This album is really special for me. I'm glad some people are starting to notice this band. It was an impressive debut album, indeed.

It's really similar too early Opeth, and Katatonia 1996-98.
A truely fantastic feeling album - mainly tracks 6,7! (Y)

Then why "only" 9 points your rating for it?

More people need to rate this album, it definitely deserves to be on the top 200 somewhere near the top. One of the most original albums I've heard in my whole life. Captivating vocals from the growls to the cleans and everything in between. Guitar riffs that change moods from a palpable field of energy to melancholy. Not to exclude the bass and especially the drums for adding to the complexity of the masterpiece of a progressive album.

I think it's kind of pathetic to let the artwork change your opinion of the music to be honest.

+1. Really don't understand how artwork can "ruin" a good album (or make a bad album good, for that matter). Kindda pretentious (or plain stupid) if you want my 2 (euro)cents......

I mean, it's not the greatest artwork, but I'd never let that influence my opinion on the record. Especially since it apparently knocked it from a 9 to a 5 for you. Are you sure you're in this for the music and not pretty pictures in jewel cases?

Fucking phenomenal album. I was bummed that Opeth dropped their heavier sound, but In Mourning fills those big shoes nicely.

This band most definitely has similarities to Opeth and Insomnium, although I hate to admit this but both of those bands are a class above imho. The songwriting is good, the songs are structured well, but there's nothing too exciting about it, other than some really nice melancholic build ups. I have to admit the only song that I'm tempted to come back to is "The Black Lodge", which is undoubtedly a terrific song. The rest of the album is decent but nothing special or memorable imo.

I like the album cover although it looks more suitable for a funeral doom album, the colours give off a rather grim and depressing atmosphere.

It might seem that way, It's true that I'm starting to feel like a old grumpy fart of late Truth is I started a Be'lakor marathon recently, I had no idea how I got there but I know they are a band I never really got into but I always felt I never gave them a proper chance, so I thought I would give their discography a proper good listen through.

Feeling satisfied that I accomplished that I've now started on In Mourning, another band I feel requires my full concentration on. I warmed to Opeth after endlessly listening to some of their albums back to back, so I'm hoping this band will perhaps warm to me the same way

I'm trying to get into this band, but it just doesn't click with me. It's melodic and brutal, sure, but I still get the feeling I'm listening to some ultra-professional musicians from "serious" genres who decided to dabble in metal for fun
