Folk metal came in with such force as the new popular thing and is now drifting slowly out as legions of monotonous bands have sucked the genre dry of all originality, but these Bavarians are here to breathe new life into this genre with their second album "Sagas". Equilibrium already burst onto the folk metal scene with incredible energy three years ago with the impressive but somewhat one-track minded "Turis Fratyr" and now return with a more mature, more diverse and truly masterful epic opus to take the world by storm.

Equilibrium are one of the most promising young folk metal bands out there - at least for most people. I myself wasn't that impressed with Turis Fratyr, it was enjoyable but it sounded a bit to much like Menhir and many other more underground German Folk/Pagan bands mixed with Finntroll. But now they are back and have gathered everything they can, to bring one epic masterpiece who will surely convince all critics!

Absolutely! Just revisiting this album now, was a 10 then, and is a 10 now. Superb melodies.

Not even the word "epic" can describe just how beautiful and aventurous this album is....heavenly music. I've had it for over 14 months and still can't believe humans crafted something like this.

I've decided that the violin solo in 'Mana' (14:00 mins in to the song) is my favourite section of music ever written (and I've listened to a lot of music!), its so beautiful how it slides down the scale and then rises and flattens out at the end. I'm not just some mega Equilibrium fan boy making ridiculous outlandish statements either. Mana is just THAT good, those who haven't listened to it do so now! You might want to bring a clean pair of underwear also.

It's a nice solo and Mana has several brilliant melodies. They could have written an entire album based on this song. I know this song like the back of my hand at this point now since I probably spent around 50 hours transcribing it, and I'd have to say my favorite part is 9:10-10:05. There's a ton going on there at the same time and I get in some sort of trance in several places of the song

Great album, just a couple of songs that are fine but not super awesome makes it a straight 9 in my opinion. I really hope Equilibrium will deliver songs as good as this in the future as well. Rekreatur is good, this is on a whole other level though.

Agreed, may I ask how you are going transcribing it? That's one mighty job are you using guitar pro?

Yes. It was insane to take it on in the first place but in the end worth it, because awesome song is awesome. I just uploaded a video for people without GuitarPro or just to hear what it sounds like. Still some modifications to be made though http://youtu.be/t2mZ0dhnaTs if you wanna check it out (there's a link if you have GP6 too). Cheers!

By far the best album with folk influences I've ever heard. It sounds more like extreme folk/symphonic power to me though. "Unbesiegt", "Snuffel", "Heiderauche", "Die Weide Und Der Fluß", "Des Sängers Fluch", "Dammerung", and above all, "Mana" are all AMAZING songs. "Mana" even rivals "The Count Of Tuscany" for my favourite song ever. So many amazing melodies and unexpected twists through this song and the entire album. The second half is much more diverse, while the first is just upbeat folk/power metal with plenty of excellent riffs (I mean, they go from disco music to thrash metal to ZZ Top in the space of three songs!).
One of few top 200 albums that I believe deserves its spot.

This is definitely up there as far as best folk metal albums go (I'll probably put Kivenkantaja and maybe 1 or 2 other Moonsorrow albums up top, but hard to think of much else that competes). Unbeseigt and Mana in particular are mega songs

Moonsorrow are the overall kings of folk-infused/adjacent stuff in my book, but I would absolutely argue that this as an individual album is up there with the best. Incredibly unusual to be able to sustain this level of quality over 80 minutes. Shame they've never really got back to this peak since.

I was blown away the first time I'd heard this album. I still return to it every now and then, it's definitely one of the best folk metal albums around.

9.1/10 for me - 'Blut Im Auge' is the standout track. 'Wurzelbert', 'Unbesiegt' and 'Mana' are all also fantastic.

Unparalleled one of a kind masterpiece of epic folk metal, the orchestrations and melodies on this album are simply insane. When I first heard it in 2008 I couldn't believe my ears. Does a terrible disservice to their later discography becaue it is obvious, they will never reach this level again.

Sagas is and will probably always be my 3rd favorite album of all time. The two albums above it are both Moonsorrow albums which both capture a wide range of emotions but particularly reach down into the vast crushing and bleak depths of darker emotions. Those two albums got me through many tough times because nothing else could allow me to feel those raw depressing feelings stronger and get it all out, therefore nothing will ever top those albums for me. However I don't think any album other than Sagas brings out so many exuberant emotions in me. Like Moonsorrow albums there is so much to dissect and enjoy but this whole album is so much fucking fun! It's not often I come back to Sagas but when I do pretty much nothing could bother me for the rest of the day. It's been perfect since the day I heard it all those years ago. When I die my copy of Sagas gets buried with me.

Somehow I knew you meant Verisäkeet and Hävitetty with which picks I wholeheartedly agree.
