Very much looking forward for this release, though I don't think they'll be able to top Metazoa.

Holy shit I didn't know a Cormorant album was coming out this year. And its 2 weeks after Vektor's new album. FUCK YES! What a way to end the year!

Got mine last night! It's incredible.
Seriously, if anyone rates this lower than Metazoa, I dont know what they're on. It's sooooooo much better [and Metazoa was pretty awesome]

Sir yes sir, I rated Dwellings lower. It's not because I didnt like it, I am just not so much interested on melodic death metal than 2 years ago. So I prefer Metazoa. At the time that album was a revelation for me.
Respect for Cormorant nonetheless.
Fair enough... But this album is so much more than mere melodic death or folky melodic stuff like Metazoa was... It's sooooooooooo much more mature, the songwriting is better, the riffs are vastly superior [regardless of style], and much more comfortable when it steps out into progressive territory. And there's loads of black metal influence as well that fits even more. And the vocal performance, production, tone, and even instrumental performance is superior to Metazoa. aaaaaaaand it's simply more original than Metazoa. It's like the band found their own voice and now will continue to refine that voice.

Written by [user id=117030] on 13.12.2011 at 20:00 You're probably right. To me, music is all about mood and atmosphere. When this album has it, sooner or later I'll change my vote. It has no end of time to grow on me.
Oddly enough, I think this album has a an absolute boatload more atmosphere than Metazoa had. Partly because Metazoa is a bit overbearing at times and the production doesnt really give the songs any room to breathe.
And well, we see eye-to-eye on what music is all about, to say the least. That's pretty much my thoughts too. And I mean, come on, the last few minutes of A Howling Dust are some of the most harrowing moments of music released this year, to me. No end of emotions come from that song, for me.

Been listening to this lately. Its fucking great. I was going to give it a 10, but I kind of feel like some of the songs are a bit too long so I'm going with a 9. This score might change though because usually I rate an album after my first or second listen, but then later on I end up feeling different about it. *shrugs*

I really wanted to enjoy this but it was far to raw and the melodies were far to amateur for me. Just my opinion anyways.

I'm sorry Fredd, this is going to break your heart, but this really isn't for me. I told you. I dislike pretty much everything about it. I would have stopped listening after two songs if it weren't for you.

I imagine this style isn't for everyone, although you're the first person I've ever met that wouldn't even give it a pass. Out of curiosity, what exactly don't you like about this album?

Well as you said, it is a question of style. I am really not into folk-related metal. I listen to a lot of neofolk, but that's entirely different in sound, atmosphere and ideology as you must already know. Then there's the vocals I found very off-putting, neither powerful, nor abrasive, nor varied enough. And - the way - he - enunciates - the lyrics - annoyed - me. The guitar tone doesn't do anything for me and I really am not a solo lover. My overall impression, despite seeing some quality in there, just feels exactly like someone picked everything I didn't like in prog and folk, and mixed it. I hope I am making sense.

It's kind of funny, because I'm not really into folk-related metal either. But for me the vocalist really adds an extra dimension to the music and the arrangements typically feel progressive enough for me to get invested into.

It is funny because when I listened to it, and came here to leave that comment for Fredd, I was expecting to see people complaining about the vocals. It's surprising how alone I can be on some things, especially vocals, I've always been very picky. I really would have liked it more if they went more towards something you could here in black metal. But then it would have sounded even more like a folk/folk black album and I might have liked it even less, because it'd have been more banal. Haha.

i submitted a review for dwellings btw, took me less than 30 minutes it's gonna be the half-assed-est thing you've read this year.
Looking forward to seeing that 9.9 for an album I really didn't like .
