Immortal - Pure Holocaust

Great album from these mighty Norsemen. I don't think it's their best, because a lot of dissonance is used.... But still, I consider it a BM essential that has a lot of good tracks. "Pure Holocaust" was my first black metal track.

This album is excellent, I must have listened to this album a million times and its still as great now as the first time I heard it. Undoubtedly the pinnacle of Immortals career.

Immortal were a fun band to watch a bloodstock. I guess the overall atmosphere created at that show more than matched the one created on this album. The moon was rising fully in the sky, and immortal played inhumanly fast and raw. Fucking great album.

Hands down, its amazing and a big step up from their debut

Fantastic album. The production in particular is near perfect for this kind of black metal imo. The drums have a nice clacking, rattling noise to em. And Abbath's vocals are sick, very croaky and evil sounding.

Another classic , pure BM sound, comparing to 1th one, some say last true Immortal album, but fuck em, all from this band are awesome, true winter album

one of rare albums where bad sound quality don't matter
IMO band needs go to studio and re record this and 1th one whit better mix, master

This album definetly has what a good Black Metal album contained in 1993. Blasting drums, icy sounding guitars, lyrics about northern darkness. Also the lenght of the album is perfect for this kind of music. I can't really see why albums like plastic sounding Sons of the Northern Darkness and Damned in Black are rated higher. A true classic of the genre and probably in top 3 of pure BM records of all time imo.

Abbath's drumming is otherworldly and the guitar work creates a genuinely evil sounding atmosphere often attempted but rarely captured so accurately. Varied riffs and tempos alternating between frenetic and gloomy help maintain its sense of captivation from beginning to end. Only a shade over 30 minutes as well so it's a lot to digest in a short span of time.

Back when they did take themselves seriously. No alcoholism. No clowny acts. No demands or disputes. Just a focused Black Metal band.

Og, pre At The Heart Of Winter Immortal is the epitome of a blizzard in blast beatstick hurricane motion.

Fairly boring release, but the title track and its very "Imperial March" reminiscent riff is a banger

First I rated it 8 as I tend to go with the flow. But this is insanity from start to finish, drumming is insane and so are the guitars.

My favorite Immortal album. I enjoy the more progressive and varied nature of later releases, but this focused freight train totally speaks to me (in cursed demonic tongues, of course).

Sounds cold indeed, especially like the Teutonic like drumming
