The first time I heard this album, it sounded incredible to me. Second time, pretty good. 3rd, just average and kind of "fake", if you know what I mean.

Fake? I definitely don't know what you mean.
I think this is a well-executed tech-death release that takes advantage of some really nice melodies. Outstanding songwriting.

Seriously one of my favorite debuts of all time. Not sure exactly where he's coming from with 'fake'.

I dunno. Maybe it's not brutal enough or something. :/

CoB? Not even close.
Just relistened this today, and I must say I agree with Benighted. One of the best debuts ever.

This is by far their best album. It's head and shoulders above the rest of their work. A Celebration of Guilt is a prime example of the "band couldn't top their debut" syndrome.

I'd say their follow up EP matches this. After that though it's not worth bothering.

Listening to this for the first time in a good 3 or so years, and I gotta say the riffs are as familiar as yesterday. A testament to the strength of the melodies.

I have never thought of CoB actually, I think you just brought them closer.

Full of kickass riffs and catchy melodies throughout, this album is spectacular. Most definitely one of the best debuts in the American tech death scene.

I've been putting off listening to this for the first time, afraid that it was overhyped to me...
The album is fucking incredible, they shat on my high expectations.

Some fantastic riffs on this one, but something with the production drags it down a little..
