An album that showed off Tommy Vertelli's abilities as a guitarist, and most of his riffs on the album show him as a team leader of the band. Though it may have been the production's fault however, the vocals are pretty low in the mix, so that the guitar, drums and bass seem to take the lead. But nonetheless, this is a fantastic album by any means, perhaps overshadowed by its three succeeding album.

I think i first got into this band after i saw a video with Chuck Schuldiner wearing a shirt of this album. I listened to a few songs for a couple of weeks liking what i heard. It wasn't till later that I started to realize what an impressive out cry of thrash this band could produce. I'm glad i own this album and id love to own more if they weren't so expensive.

I like the low mixed vocals. It reminds me a lot of what Emperor did with their first album: Adds a nice grim effect to it.

I'd give it a 7,5 if I could as I'd be more appropiate to how I feel about the album. I definitely noticed the "grim" production due to the vocals being lower in the mix, nice touch. The guitar work is great but I can feel it was *starting* to get good while in No More Colors it the work was completed in my opinion. Still, great album which I'm lucky to have found in vinyl in good condition.

Another classic in genre, masked jackal is an classic song, IMO that was what brought me into this band, in old days of YouTube in its dipers , or maybe no, somewhere I heard that song in my early 20's in internet diper days. Good solid record but best song is an cover song, a bit different but same as original thats why its so good

Brilliant, brilliant album with terrible production. I'd say this is the second best album they did after No More Colour. The stellar guitarwork of Tommy Vetterli is truly one of a kind here, in the best way possible. The dude can frigging shred, but he also has his own unique personality and elegant style very few guitarists in the world can even dream of duplicating.

You've got a lot of guts. Let's see what they look like!

I agree, it is their second best album after No more colour. I really like this album. Production is bad but not a big issue for me here.

Incredible album, I like it almost as much as No More Color, but still worthy of a top rating. I'm a big fan of technical thrash, and these guys deliver

Their best album IMO (excluding the Hendrix cover). No More Color comes close, but this is slightly better.
9.1/10 for me - "Masked Jackal", "Skeleton On Your Shoulder", and "Sudden Fall" are the standout tracks. "Arc-Lite", "Shadow Of A Lost Dream", and "The New Breed" are all also fantastic.
