Right from the get-go Wijlen Wij plunge their listener into the murky depths.

"Boreas" opens powerfully with subhuman vocals and organ cloaked power chords that sound is if recorded by an 8 track in some massive subterranean cave. Rather than the often slick and powerful production like a lot of their Solitude label mates sport, they went for a more primitive sound.

Epic Funeral Doom
Feb 16, 2014
The sophomore release from this potent Belgian trio is a stimulating journey through four heaping slabs of funeral doom. However, this certainly isn't evil and soul-crushing in the traditional understanding of the style. With Wijlen Wij, clean vocals, suprisingly good melodies and grooves, and even a few audio samples combine to form some of the most upbeat and overall interesting funeral doom I've heard in quite awhile. Opener "Boreas" is nothing short of amazing.

Stream it on Bandcamp.

Some of the most upbeat funeral doom I've ever heard. Sounds quite good if this song is anything to go by.

That song was pretty awful to my ears. The mix of cleans and low FD vocals didn't really mesh well. The organ was very overbearing too. Also, maybe it's just the youtube quality, but the production wasn't that great either, sounded like the whole thing was pushed a step back, and it was pretty thin.

That being said I'm probably not gonna listen to this.

The 17+ minute "Die Verwandlung" was certainly good listening for my ears. Thanks for good review!

?boreas gave me a pretty strong Skepticism vibe, but that may have been mainly due to the organ. Solid release, will need a few more listens though. Fairly long album, so may take some time to go through it proper several more times.

First and last track were pretty good, but everything else is as stale as the bread used to feed pigeons...
