The Gentle Storm - Share Gentle Version Of 'Shores Of India'

The Gentle Storm, which merges the talents of Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, Star One, Guilt Machine) and Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering, Devin Townsend) just revealed the gentle version of the track 'Shores Of India" just now. The song will appear on the upcoming debut album The Diary that hits stores two weeks from now. So, you get to enjoy a different side of the album, which features two different versions of the songs: the acoustic (gentle) and the heavy (storm) version. Do you like what you hear?

This gentle version of 'Shores Of India" showcases a diverse range of instruments, including sitar, coral, surbahar, tabla, tanpura, shakuhachi, oboe, English horn, bansuri, sampoña, piccolo, flute, alto flute, bass flute, contrabass flute, tin whistle, low whistle, mandolin, double bass, cellos, violins and grand piano.

Anneke had this to say: "I immediately loved the mysterious and exotic melodies on 'Shores Of India'. It must have been overwhelming for these sailors to encounter such a different and wonderful culture in the 17th century. We really tried to put ourselves in their position and capture their amazement. There is a big difference in how we approached the vocals on both versions, because musically there is a different intensity between the 'gentle'- and 'storm' interpretation, but the lyrics and emotions remain the same. It has been such a great experience working on that with Arjen."

Arjen adds: "For me the 'gentle' version of Shores of India is one of the songs that really shines in its acoustic setting. It feels like an emotional journey, also because of the many exotic instruments that were used."

This just didn't do it for me. I loved Heart of Amsterdam and both versions of the previous track, but the gentle version of this and is just hard to stomach... and it is not like I do not enjoy softer folk tinged songs but this one is damn boring. And kinda long for its own purpose.
