The musicians of Evergrey have had a tumultuous and hard-fought career, and even though the band has had many talented members, the current lineup is being rightfully regarded as their best. Following the triumphant combined returns of Henrik Danhage and Jonas Ekdahl in 2014, the album Hymns for the Broken set the new standard for the band. 2016 sees their new offering come to life through AFM Records, bearing the title The Storm Within. So?

So, circle the calendar. The dark poets of progressive power metal have struck gold again.

Pretty disappointed to be honest, nowhere near as good as Hymns. Highlights would be Distance and the song with Floor.

If so, then DT's album is great (I haven't heard yet).

I loved this new album, it was great!

"The Astonishing" and "great" are as fas away from each other as the Earth is from Sirius. 210 000 light years, to be exact.

Didn't really expect much from these guys, but apart from a song or two this wasn't really that great like Daniel said. A bit...basic.

Solid album. Their best since Recreation Day (The Inner Circle was great but like this album more). Passing Through is one of their all time greats. Would rate it 8.5.

This album kicks off very generic Evergrey but has enough high moments that I dig it.

Not as good as Hymns, but still a solid album. I enjoyed it. I'm in love with Tom's voice.

Could be the letdown of the year considering just how awesome Hymns was.

Got pretty excited after seeing the high ratings here. It's not a bad album, but can't help but feel like this band is just safely chugging out the sameish sounding generic prog metal we're used to hearing. There's so much talent here, that I wish they'd experiment outside their comfort zone a bit more.

The more I listen to this the more I like it. "Someday" is probably my least favorite track, but the rest of the album is great. After a couple subpar albums (pre-Hymns) I think Evergrey is back on their game!

Sorry, i have to be honest, the album is good, but IDK, just sound's generic, plain and nothing really new
even the songs with floor aren't that special, "In Orbit" sound's like a metal version of "Adele - Hello"

It's a matter of tastes. I loved so much The Astonishing and I'm thinking about it yet today as another GREAT album from DT.

Hot damn, this Paranoid cover might be the best cover I've ever heard. Its INCREDIBLE. They did such a good job of combining the Evergrey sound with this legendary song. It sounds like a completely different song at some points. I might even like it more then the original. It has no business being this good!

Anyway, the rest of the album is fine, but its nothing special. It's kind of just Evergrey by the numbers. If you liked Glorious Collision and Hymns and want to hear more of that, pick this up. If you feel like Evergrey needs to actually do something different and live up to the 'Progressive' part of their genre tag, this isn't the album for you.

It's interesting, for me personally "Hymns" is the lesser record of the two. I like the themes and melodies here a lot and Tom's voice especially. It's very safe even Evergrey's standards but it works for me.
