Mors Principium Est is at the core a Gothenburg metal band from Finland with a duo of killer albums released in the early 2000s, Inhumanity and The Unborn. Yet their front man Andy Gillion is from the UK. He took over songwriting and guitar duties when the band was on the brink of being dissolved in 2011. He carried on the legacy with Ville Viljanen [vocals], Mikko Sipola [drums] and Teemu Heinola [bass]. This Mors Principium Est v2.0 has been thriving under his astute vision and vista.

I hope the last song Apprentice of Death is as epic [if not better than] Dead Winds Of Hope from two albums ago. That song's mid breakdown was freaking amazing.

It's probably my pick for best track on the album, neck and neck with the black metal-tinged 'The Ghost'. Really good album in general, though.

Honestly, I thought the first two proper songs from this album were really bland, uninspired stuff. The cheesy symphonics didn't do much but annoy me even more, and the musicianship was too predictable to be called adventurous. Then somehow the band have a complete turnaround in terms of creativity and deliver one of the album's stand-out highlights, "Death is the Beginning". I think from this point on is where the band really show their strengths. At times I'm reminded of Karybdis in terms of musical technique and style, but this certainly turns out to be a very decent melodeath record. Pity that it starts in a boring way.

This might actually be my favourite Mors album to date. Also seeing them on 70000Tons last week was amazing, considering I never thought I'd get to see them live. Apprentice Of Death live was brilliant.

Very decent. Preferred the previous two albums in terms of pure riffs and standout tracks. But as an album this is definitely a cohesive one. Last song is a personal fav.

This might be my favorite album of them, there are NO bad tracks here, and Death is the Beggining... damn, what a track. I'd say these guys are the best melodeath band around for now, their material is unbelievably consistent.

Fantastic album.

I've never doubted once that this could be shadowed by previous release "Dawn Of The 5th Era" 'cause it surpassed in all departments easily. Such a brilliantly concept record with powerful performance by Mors in all areas has given great quality to sound. It shouldn't come as surprise if this could be the best record since "Unborn".

I do agree with musicalkarate when it comes to build-up which was slow and steady but I guess this was intentional. I think it is due to slow build-up that they took over to middle section with power pack performance and then slayed til the end.

Indeed, seems like it is going to be the best melodeath riff of the year..

Death is the Beginning is the best song i've heard in a long long time. Not a huge fan of theirs, downloaded this album after seeing it in metalstorm top 20 of the year. This song made me teary eyed.

I think that this album is their most memorable since the Unborn. I didn't like their previous one that much.

2020 edit: this album is a modern melodeath classic with stellar songwriting, i must recognise that it has no discernible fault. i'm raising my score to 10.

MESMERISING. Nothing like them. I'm VERY sorry I missed you guys in Tokyo this year in Shibuya. I was really happy to see you for the last album but just missed you guys again last month. This album is absolute god's work, and the best album I have heard since your last. Nothing like it, keep up the passion. You guys are incredible!
