Paradise Lost - To Reissue 'One Second'
While keeping busy with the release of their upcoming album, Paradise Lost will also reissue their 1997 record, One Second, later this summer. It's being launched by Music For Nations on July 14th to mark the 20th anniversary of the band's sixth album.
The follow-up to 1995's Draconian Times marked a turning point for the band, who left behind their harder edge to concentrate on a more gothic sound by experimenting with keyboards. Vocalist Nick Holmes comments: "The album really was a vast departure from Draconian Times and for better or worse the beginning of a very experimental stage for the band. Either way, One Second will always remain a vital cog in the band's close to 30 year history. We are happy to be working with Music For Nations again on this release."
The album has been remastered by the band's current producer Jaime Gomez with the 2CD version featuring a live performance from London's Shepherd's Bush Empire from 1998. The reissue of One Second is fully supported by the band and their management with their input on packaging and audio, along with liner notes from Kerrang journalist Nick Ruskell.

"...to mark the 20th anniversary of the band's sixth album..." Like it was a landmark album   Actually, it was the first sign of decay that led to albums like "Host" and "Believe In Nothing"

The album that started their best period for sure, culmination of which was Symbol Of Life. And the first album where they found their own, unique voice. Kinda sad they devolved lately trying to sell records to "old fans" and limited the range of their music. I hope they come back to playing more catchy and melodic songs at some point, it suited them pretty well.

It's funny to hear that by far one of their worst albums, which basically begun their sell-out period, is labeled as one of their best. No wonder some bands continue to make crap albums. When you got fans that praise for releasing dung after dung, what can you expect? Luckily they came back to the roots with the last album. Holmes thinks of himself as a pop singer on this album. And the result is excruciating. Back in the 90s he was good as a growler mostly as his clean singing was often off-key. He only got better in the mid 2000s with his clean singing. Most bands that tried to impersonate Sisters of Mercy ended up embarrassing themselves. And for good reason. From innovative, pioneering gothic music to singing pop music, this is what Paradise Lost had become beginning with this album, streak which continued more or less until the mid 2000s.

Written by TheMAGAmvm on 21.06.2017 at 12:26 This statement is very true. Also, the last full length album by The Sisters Of Mercy, Vision Thing, is more metal than One Second, Host, Believe In Nothing, Symbol Of Life and Paradise Lost combined. And it has much better music too.

Written by nikarg on 22.06.2017 at 19:12 Sisters of Mercy was one of a kind band and the 80s and early 90s was a special period that cannot be replicated and the sound cannot be reproduced while still sounding fresh. I remember listening to their last album and now that I think about, it seems to be heavy, but not heavy as in metal. But surely heavier than the PL synthpop era.
