Sordid jumped higher; their album is still not groundbreaking and will not rename the genre, but it's quite fucking good. "Valley Of Punishment" comes with an incredible pack of catchy and brutal riffs, a very good collection actually. The music defines itself as Death Metal, it has a lot of influenced tones here and there, but nothing actually "Borrowed", the music itself sounds really fresh and even original...that's saying something.
While the guitar-riffs and the drum-beats are super-catchy, the rest of the instruments just "play"; the songwriting is not very complex then, there are a couple of good solos (the cool one is not even played by the guitarist himself) and a couple of multi-faceted songs, but the whole album shows a guitar-driven band focused on playing good and in playing catchy, they suceed! And I'd give my left pinky if someone doesn't identifies the riffs perfectly in their second listen.
All in all this is a good album and a GREAT debut! Death Metal fanatics should try this in one of those "what should I hear now?" days, all of us should stay tuned just to see what this band releases next, if these Canadians polish their sound, and practice some top-notch structures to add technicality into their music, I'm sure they'll give us a very interesting listen in the future.
