EyeHateGod and Acid Bath are my favourite sludge metal bands, and both considered among the fathers of the genre. Both have many things in common: hail from Lousiana, have a totally dark and nihilistic approach to life and their music and lyrics are highly corrosive. But there are also important differences: while Acid Bath are far more melodic, taking bluessy riffs and also daring to mix their sludge with equally bluessy ballads, being totally depressive in their heaviness, EyeHateGod are directly sick and fucked off, with an explisive, angry heaviness that doesn't stop and a hardcore mood.

If I'd like to add the option "both", it would probably be the chosen one, as the two bands are really something especial for me, but I'm going with Acid Bath for the sole reason that I had been more time into them, and had grew in me... I bought their album "When The kite String Pops" about 5 years ago, and since that moment I truly love the band.

Nice poll man. This was actually easy for me; I've always enjoyed Eyehategod more than Acid Bath. Like you said, those guys are really fucked up and pissed off and I enjoy their still a bit more. Take as Needed for Pain and Dopesick are awesome albums and beat anything that Acid Bath has made.

From EyeHateGod I know only ''In Name Of Suppering'' so I woud vote for Iced Bath, its one of my fav bands, realy good old schoog sluge doom band, band best side are that thay splitt up and cant chaged whit time, heh I love Acid Bath

Eyehategod might be more aggressive and stuff.
But the sound of acid bath is melodic... but in a very sick way, that's why I like them...

Acid Bath all the way. I prefer their melody AND fucked-upness over Eyehategod's fucked-upness solely.

If EyeHateGod were the second best band in this catagory of music, Acid Bath would still be leagues ahead on the awesomeness scale.

So yeah...Acid Bath.

You can't compare these too in my opinion...so i'm not gonna vote...Because EHG and Acid Bath are pretty different from each other...Eyehategod is one of the most pure Sludge bands out there...but Acid Bath has some grindcore touch in it...EHG and Acid Bath both belong to my alltime favourite bands.

But...Fuck this...if you are really asking then i like Eyehategod more...:D

It's just...Eyehategod...I like their "In your Face" attitude and they're feedbacks and they're fucking crunchy riffs...And their vibe...And i've been listening to Eyehategod longer than i've listened to Acid Bath.

I Love Them Both...but yeah...in my opinion Eyehategod is better.

I don't know man.. I almost fall from the cheair when I I saw the word grindcore with the band Acid Bath...

And it's kinda impossible that write that by misstake, since the letters are far away on the table.... o.o

This was worse than a guy who said that the last Katatonia album was the best "progressive death metal" album of the year. on the Katatonia's threat.

Acid Bath by far. I love the haunting vocals.

I think their "Paegan Terrorism Tactics" was more grungy than "When The Kite String Pops".

You're definitely not the only one. Just like JD said, PTT has an amount of grunge on it, a huge amount to my ears. WTKSP doesn't have the same amount though but still a big enough to notice it.

EHG, for me. They just have everything I look for in this kind of music. When you put them on, you know you're going to get sick, no-BS sludge crushing you like a steamroller. Acid Bath are good, but I've yet to really "get" them. And there's something distinctly redneck about their sound that I've had a hard time adjusting to. I'm getting there, though!

Acid Bath all the way. They are so diverse. They get put into the Sludge category but they are so much more. One category can't describe Acid Bath.

I'm glad that I checked out Acid Bath after seeing this poll because they are pretty fucking good. I've neglected checking out sludge metal because I tend to lop many non-death metal genres (outside of black, thrash, and grind) in with deathcore, prog-metal, or nu-metal (which I hate), though I am finding out that this genre couldn't be further from that. Looks like I have some bands to check out now

i guess i hear a little as well, traces in the music... but it's largely because the vocalist sounds like he could front a grunge band and sound damned good doing it.

If you haven't listened to their Demos compilation, it's like listning to "WTKSP" in a grungy version(only 9 songs), very cool, I still couldn't decide what version I like the most, but probably both.

I have, it's a hit or miss when it comes to "which version is better" because both are good but songs like Dr. Seuss is dead are actually WAAAAY better on the debut but the song Bones of baby dolls from the demo is probably one of the most bone-chilling stuff I've ever heard in my life.

Acid Bath is definitely my pick. Acid Bath and Eyehategod both have great sounds, but Eyehategod doesn't have Dax Riggs.

Hmm, I'm little confused by my initial post, as I thought I had always preferred Acid Bath to Eyehategod. I think I'm one of the few who prefers Paegan Terrorism Tactics over the debut, but both are incredible.

PTT is a great album but I don't like the production, it's too thin while the debut got a more meaty, chunky and morbid sound on the guitars. The vocals were also more fucked up. But yeah, both albums are definitely awesome.

Eyehategod is brilliant too, but I just like Acid Bath *a bit* more.
