I'm still excited to hear a new Ghost album but I haven't exactly been blown away by the two singles they've released so far.

I'm a little disappointed. Some songs are good for dancing or something, but still not as good as before.

Hunter's Moon and Call Me Little Sunshine have really grown on me and now with Twenties, they've released their heaviest song for several years so I'm very excited about this album now.

I wasn't expecting to be like their first album, I know that Ghost moved from all of that and I really like the releases after the debut even with the more pop and commercial sound.
I even liked the first 2 singles they put out but other than that this is a pretty bad release, every single song is a sugary pop/rock with no inspiration.

It’s better than Prequelle. I always considered that one as an EP because frankly it wasn’t very fleshy!

Absolutely the best Ghost album ever!
So lively and fresh. This is much more Swedish than ever with more collaboration that makes it more interesting and stronger.

8.5/10

Great album. The surprise factor is gone and it's absolutely normal. The front layer of darkness has been pushed back in musical terms in comparison to their first albums, and it's something normal too. But the whole outcome is marvelous once again. Catchiness, well-crafted songs, and melodies are here. This album is full of different emotional states and colors. If you love good music go for it. The majority of those who put the blame on the band for leaving behind some elements that were their greatest virtue in the past are the same people that back then when Ghost released those albums they kept mocking the band as a false metal joke or as a bunch of impersonators and clowns. Now the same people miss this era. This fact is the only and real joke, period.

To me this is a very average and mainstream pop/rock sounding album, and although it's labelled as psychedelic rock, I'm not actually getting any psychedelic vibes from this at all. "Watcher In The Sky" is an alright song, and "Twenties" is pretty catchy, but aside from that, there is nothing else on this album that really sparks my interest.

There are some great melodies on this one. Ghost is one of those bands I'm not often in the mood for, but I'm really enjoying this release.

I've just finished my third listen. It's a significant improvement to Prequelle, for sure. It is a good album, very easy listening, with hooks, and it flows well (as opposed to Prequelle, which didn't flow at all). The first half is super strong, the second half falls behind a little. The interludes and "Darkness At The Heart Of My Love" are skippable but the rest of the album makes up for these. Everything up to - and including - "Watcher In The Sky" is uptempo and very enjoyable, "Twenties" is nicely heavy and dark, "Griftwood" is another version of "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" and "Respite On The Spitalfields" is a fantastic closer.

As much as this is better than Prequelle in every way, there is no "Dance Macabre" here.

No one can rip off so many bands at the same time and get away with it as shamelessly as Ghost do!
Darkness at the Heart of my love chorus sounds like Bryan Adam's Heaven with alternative lyrics.
Spillways into reminds a lot of Toto's Hold the line...I can keep going for days about what everything sounds like.
Still love it though! Definitely nowhere near Prequelle or Meliora quality-wise.

I was hoping for more "Meliora" and less "Prequelle", but that's not what we get here. "Call me little sunshine" is a good track, but the rest is pretty weak, overly melodic, and lack the darkness mood that the older albums possessed.

I think this is more Meliora than Prequelle personally but each to their own.

The second half in particular is a real grower. I have my personal favourites but there's not a bad track on here IMO, I love it.

After being disappointed by both singles, I ended up being very pleasantly surprised by this. I even really like "Hunter's Moon" now.

Yes, it's upbeat. Yes, it's accessible. I'm really not sure what else anyone expected by this point?
