2018 must be a year of mixed emotions for Jón Aldará fans; on the one hand, both bands he was already involved with at the time (Hamferð and Barren Earth) subsequently went on prolonged dry spells without an album, but on the flip side, he joined Iotunn and lit up their acclaimed debut Access All Worlds. 2024 has been kinder to these fans, as not only have Hamferð awoken from their slumber, but Iotunn have returned for round two.

I found that the last song is the only one that really stays. The motif that is repeated in the latter part of the song is so beautiful. Otherwise pretty boring, albeit expert musicianship. A bit too much going on for me, and not a fan of the vocals. The guitars would benefit from a bit more heaviness too.

Same here, it’s well done but it’s a bit of a chore to listen to

What a hidden gem this band is. This album would be perfect if the order of the songs would have been a little different. Like 5th track in 7th. Even so is definetly the best album I've heard this year, not even Opeth or Wintersun impressed me this far. The highlight is, without a doubt, The Anguished Ethereal. What a masterpiece of a track.

This is a unique piece of music! Except for 1-2 songs, everything else is a masterpiece. To the experts here: The vocals have a unique timbre and skills that many lack. The guitars are incredible and full of fresh ideas. The bassist is flat and is a level above famous ones. In a word - Masterpiece

What a beautiful album this is. has to be one of my favorites in recent years. I stumble upon it every now and then, and then I get hooked. the vocals take the cherry for me.

I had heard Jon's contributions Clouds and some other bands and I used to wonder why he isn't better known. With this album he really peaks

The vocals are outstanding. The first and the last songs are really good. But I was wanting something a bit more, considering the rating.

I love this album to bits, and hope the next one is just as good. I find myself getting emotional hearing certain parts of it, and goddamn what a vocal performance.

Pick out almost any one of these songs and it's awesome but as an album things get a bit samey. It is a consistently pretty great album so that's not really a bad thing but it does make it less interesting to return to, at least for me. The singing and writing are excellent, I just wish there was a bit more exploration going on. There's something inspiring about this sound though that makes me want to work on my own creative projects or get out into the world and do something.

This was my surprising album of 2024. Has everything speed, brutality, melody. Very diverse - like it.

Faves: Earth to sky and Mistland
