Blitzkrieg
Blitzkrieg was formed in Leicester in October 1980. Their first demo, made in November that year, secured them their first recording deal with Neat Records resulting in the famous Blitzkrieg/Buried Alive single & a track on the Lead Weight compilation album. The band gigged extensively in England but split in 1981. The members went their own separate ways but Brian Ross & Mick Moore stayed together to form the heart of Avenger. The band released 2 singles on Neat: Ross then left to join Satan with whom he recorded the classic Caught In The Act album which was released by Roadrunner & licensed to Neat for the UK. After the success of the Satan album & European tours, the band's direction became unclear & Ross decided to leave & concentrate on managing the North East band Lone Wolf (Brian performed vocals on the single Your Move). Now Ross decided that it was time to record the Blitzkrieg LP that had been planned on their single, Your Move. Now Ross decided that it was time to record the Blitzkrieg LP that had been planned way back in 1981, entitled A Time Of Changes: it was released in 1985 on Neat/Roadrunner with recruits from the previous bands brought in to record the album. Meanwhile, Metallica covered the song Blitzkrieg on their Creeping Death EP. In 1991 the band made a mini album called Ten Years Of Blitzkrieg for Roadrunner to celebrate their tenth anniversary, re-recording the Blitzkrieg /Buried Alive tracks together with 3 new numbers. In 1995 Neat Records re-emerged with a vengeance & immediately signed Blitzkrieg to a new 3 album deal: Unholy Trinity, Ten & The Mists Of Avalon were the result (also released in Japan on Pony Canyon Records). Another boost from Metallica came when the USA rockers again covered the Blitzkrieg track on their Live Shit box set & their 1998 album Garage Inc. 2002 saw the release of their new album Absolute Power on Edgy Records (a spin off label of Neat Records' boss Jess Cox) to rave reviews worldwide. A spate of interviews in Europe, the UK & the USA followed with a string of festival dates in Europe (& the US) which helped push the band back into the spotlight once more. Absolute Power was released in Brazil on Hellion Records & as an LP in Sweden by TPL Records. Following the release of their double Anthology CD on Sanctuary Records the band released their first live album on Metal Nation Records (again owned by Jess Cox). Following the release of Absolutely live, the band went on to record the critically acclaimed "Sins and Greed" which was released in mid 2005. This was also the subject of a Limited edition double gatefold release by TPL records in Sweden and in Brazil. The band has been gigging extensively throughout 2005 and 2006 touring with both Saxon and Doro in the UK as well as several European festivals. Live dates are being scheduled in Europe. Sinistro
Coming from an unlikely location like Lisbon, Portugal, SINISTRO are the embodiment of both lush and devastating musical landscapes driven by five individuals from distinct art circles. SINISTRO have been cultivating sonic exploration since writing their self-titled debut album, which was released in 2012 and delivers elegant doom rock combined with a soundtrack like approach that harvested praise from both public and critics alike. SINISTRO's next effort 'Cidade' (2013) welcomed singer Patrícia Andrade on board and went on to explore a massive wall of guitars combined with gritty keyboard layers and an emotional vocal performance. With the added singing, some writers suggested Fado as one of the band's aesthetic resources. Backed by unanimous critical acclaim, 'Cidade' established SINISTRO as an essential name in the Portuguese music scene. SINISTRO began composing their next album in 2014. The band added a second guitarist into their fold, who helped pushing their unique style another step further. Keeping a cinematic feeling in the background, The Portuguese vary from abrasive musical thickness to a perfect sense of stillness, which portrays the urban landscapes of their homeland and its legacy with a strong visual presence. SINISTRO created seven brand new tracks that are bound to appeal to music fans of various genres. Despite being a comparatively new entity, the members of SINISTRO are no strangers to their native music scene. The band features an actress, a music producer, and instrumentalists, who have followed this path for over 20 years as part of other acts such as WE ARE THE DAMNED, BESTA, MOURNING LENORE, and many others. Poisonblack
POISONBLACK is neither just another gothic metal band hailing from Finland, nor your generic project-band formed in order to kill some time while the main band is taking a break. "This is not a project band! I have my heart and soul in POISONBLACK", states Ville Laihiala. After playing guitar on the side for 17 years, the Sentenced frontman felt the urge to pursue his ambition as a guitarist and formed POISONBLACK towards the end of 2000. Laihiala formed the group together with a couple of talented, close friends from Oulu with whom he had jammed in various bands before, among them his soulbrother Janne Kukkonen on bass. Both of them don't only share a long history in various bands, but also the same vision about music: "When we produced the album together it was like he could read my mind, how I wanted the songs to sound like", recalls Laihiala about the recording process of their debut-album Escapexstacy in Neo Studio. Since he wanted to fully concentrate on his guitar duties, Ville followed his first impulse and contacted J.P. Leppäluoto from Charon whom he met when Charon was supporting Sentenced on their Crimson-tour. "He was the best and most fitting singer I could think of. I knew his voice would fit perfectly and add a certain kind of dark yet melodic feeling to our music." Asked about the lyrical concept of the album Laihiala smiles: "The main theme of the album is lust & addiction - for life, sex, fire, death... Let's say I took a trip inside my mind and danced with the demons inside of it..." All visuals (artwork and photos) of Escapexstacy were handled by Sentenced-drummer Vesa Ranta, who previously designed the art for Sentenced's highly acclaimed and successful album The Cold White Light. Escapexstacy is the perfect soundtrack for a dance with your own demons - just allow its sensual, velvety passion to take a step into your deepest emotions. Read more ›› |

Vertex - The Purest Light
In the Metal Storm Awards each year, we group together djent and mathcore in the ‘math metal’ category; this is partly because it would otherwise be tricky to reach 10 good nominees in some years, but it’s also partly because mathy time signatures are a common feature in many djent bands. Nevertheless, djent and mathcore are usually two relatively disparate styles approaching a common concept from opposing ends; however, occasionally a band comes along that represents both forms of rhythmic madness.
