What's up with Finland and Power Metal nowadays? After Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius and Thunderstone everyone wants their Power Metal band! Jut like it happened in Sweden with Melodeath and with Black Metal in Norway, I can imagine little kids telling their parents "Mommy, can I have my Black Metal band?" and the mother replying "Yes my dear, but no blood swallowing or church burning is that ok? "Hurray! Thanks mom!"
Anyway, as you can imagine we have another victim of the Metal trends here, Power Metal from Finland? errr cough*cough* ?hurray?
This is the sophomore release of Twilight Guardians and they're already signed to a major player in the Metal scene, Spinefarm records, damn, some bands get it really easy?
So, why should you, me or anyone else should get this record, a worthless spot in the overcrowded Power Metal scene? I can't find a reason why, I mean, this is not bad at all, but again, it doesn't have any special quality to stand out from the crowd, in other words, another Power Metal release that will pass unnoticed.
The style is fast á la Sonata Arctica, vocalist Vesa Virtanen has a deep voice, he can reach some notes although his voice can get annoying at times, guitar work is quite remarkable, riffs are solid and heavy, compositions lack originality although some tracks stand out from the rest, like "The Call" , "Angels" and "Search From Grace" song that features some growls.
The album features excellent musicianship (despite the vocals), nice arrangements, but sadly all based in a formula that has been done to death by many, many many bands, so at the end we have a copy, a nice one but still a copy. When does these bands will realize that they need original elements to stand out? We're tired of the same over and over again!
If you're fan of Finnish Power Metal, or any kind of Power Metal, get this one, if you haven't listened much Power Metal, get this one, but if you, like me, are sick and tired of these repetitive releases, just wait for the next best thing that comes around.
