Mirror Mirror on the wall?
Kenos is on of those bands that play music and doesn't realize the important fact that everything goes through the eyes first. The first thing that went through my eyes before listening this record was the horrible cover art that graces this album, debut effort by the way. Is not only the poorly manipulated image, but also the anti-aesthetic logo of the band, I mean, is that a K or a B? and please don't get me started with the inlay design of the booklet.
Visual commentaries apart, I wasn't impressed by their music, not at all. They sure have great qualities as individual musicians, but as a band they don't sound too cohesive, they play progressive Death Metal with technical aptitudes to say it so. The riffs and melodies are the best part of the record, because the vocals are completely annoying and the changes in each song don't necessarily fit in the mood sometimes, they sound too forced.
The band also uses some electronic sampling in some of their songs, which I must say doesn't fir either. With the risk of sounding impartial and not too objective, I must say that this is not a good album, neither entertaining or amusing in any aspect. As a matter of fact, anyone wants this album? I'll give it for free!
Like I said before the thing that might save this band from total obliteration is the competent lead guitar, the riffing and soloing is quite entertaining.
Now I'll put stop, and I assure you that I won't be playing this record again, and my advice to Kenos is that they put their act together, record some decent songs and hire a professional graphic designer for the next cover art.
