I received two records from Kill The Peace about a month ago, both were EPs actually, one was "Age" and it was all about Post-Metal, complex textures, intricate scales and overwhelming music played by a band called Irreversible. So immediately, while checking the name of the second band, the idea of "depressive music" combined with post-metal suddenly appeared in my mind; damn was I wrong?

Depression is really far from Post-Metal really; they play (or played because they split-up after this EP) hardcore in the vein of early Madball and bands of the sort. They are clever enough to add a lot of genres in the mix, you'll find Punk, Metalcore and even hints of Crustcore around; so the experimentation here is kind of attractive, but the final result is of course extremely obvious and very predictable; there aren't many changes throughout the record, the tracks have the same structure and the same scheme, to make things worse the band uses the same patter over and over again?in short, the album ends in the very same way it started.

There are a few good moments in this EP, the fourth track ("Forever Fucked") is a great tune that shows some layers and a couple of good breakdowns; then, if the album has the same patter it doesn't mean it's a bad one as it's fairly hostile and violent, yes it's boring to hear it incessantly, but it's somehow stimulating to try a band doing non-stop violence for 14 minutes straight.

I really wish Depression would have stayed a little longer so we could hear them in a full-length format. But well, what we have here is a good band with potential to grow enormously, but they no longer exist so what difference does this make? Try it if you're into Hardcore, for the rest this EP is completely forgettable.

Best Tracks: "Forever Fucked", "Ghost Of Cabbaletown"
