Second album of Eternal Flight, "Under The Sign Of Will" doesn't break any of the rules that the band has established with their first album. One more time the French combo plays a good but classic melodic Power Metal, this kind of music that the fans will always love but that the other listeners will maybe or even probably only find boring and uninteresting. It's a bit sad on a side, Eternal Flight is a good band but their music is not original and I understand that some people cannot stand it? You will decide?
On a side I cannot say that "Under The Sign Of Will" is a bad album. The ten songs of this release all have some good melodies and good riffs and the little progressive parts which come from the melodies played by the keyboards are interesting in my opinion. But on the other hand, it's classic Power Metal and I doubt that "Under The Sign Of Will" will give you something more. As an example, we have some kind of Progressive lines sometime (that's a good idea!) but they are just a bit too shy, and I regret that the keyboards aren't more frenetic. If the keyboards soli could be a bit crazier and technical, I can guarantee you that the music of Eternal Flight could be better. All in all, we have some good ideas but I think that Eternal Flight is a bit too formatted. I'm not saying that they try to copy somebody but they don't try to take a real risk and in the end "Under The Sign Of Will" will not cross the French borders imo, except maybe the German border?
The production of this new release is also one of its weak points. The cover is really cliché and the sound is weak but also too loud sometime. This is not really well mixed and that's a shame really, too bad that Eternal Flight didn't have the chance to record this album with some better means of productions like all the German bands which play the same kind of music, damn it could be really different, that's sad but at least we have some great musicians and a great singer and their performances save the release?
As you can see, "Under The Sign Of Will" is not a bad album, it's even an honest release but it's really generic and not surprising. The songs are catchy like a lot of other Power Metal releases but something is missing? some personality maybe and a real "spirit" if you see what I mean. Though, if you like melodic Power it cannot hurt you so try it and you'll see if it's for you.
