The music of Broken Edge is on a side a bit simple. If you know the new Sepultura or like Meshuggah you'll be able to quickly understand that we're in front of a new band which plays in the same category. For sure "Kaos/Fear" is a new release of Modern Thrash Metal with blasting riffs (which are definitely not the ones of the Bay Area combos) and technical passages. This is not so bad even if unfortunately, this is a bit too similar to what we already know. "Kaos/Fear" is a bit like an album a la Meshuggah with a big dose of riffs a la new Sepultura. This is heavy and strong, violent and not bad when you listen to it but not original and a bit repetitive. I have the feeling that Broken Edge has good ideas but that they're still too influenced by their favourite bands and sources of inspiration.
"Kaos/Fear" has a good production even if the sound is maybe a bit too loud sometime (but after all the riffs are so heavy that I can understand...). The musicians are good interprets and Thierry Marquez has an excellent powerful Death/Thrash voice (he is without any doubt the good point of the combo) but I regret that the guitars soli are not so technical. They're not bad at all but when you'll listen to the album you'll have the feeling that it's not enough for the simple reason that we cannot avoid any comparison with Sepultura and Meshuggah and here obviously the two other bands are better... Creativity is just missing...
"Kaos/Fear" is not a bad album but something is missing and this strange feeling of déjà-vu is extremely disturbing. The album has its good passages and the guys are not bad but I hope that they will be able to be a bit more surprising and technical on their future albums if they don't want to simply be compared as an average clone of Meshuggah. Time will tell if they will be able to improve their music but I think that they can do, let's give them one other chance then.
